Backdraft
Universal - USA HDR Formats: HDR10 Measured Max Peak Brightness: 1,342 nits Measured Max Frame Average: 909 nits Mastered with a very wide brightness range that frequently peaks over 1,000 nits. Dolby Vision would probably have been nice to have but brightness didn't generally seem to be an issue on my OLED, apart from the ABL kicking in noticeably for several full-frame explosions and such. There's strong use of the P3 color space, mainly for reds and oranges, as you'd expect given the subject matter. The biggest drawback is the compression; this movie is well over two hours and full of smoke and fireballs and water droplets and other challenging material, yet it's squeezed onto a two-layer disc with a relatively low bitrate. Most of the movie looks fine but there are definitely times during the action sequences when compression artifacts become clearly visible, often manifesting as rainbow chroma noise with a bit of blockiness as well. Still a pretty solid watch but definitely could've been handled better. Twister
Warner Bros. - USA HDR Formats: HDR10 Measured Max Peak Brightness: 1,336 nits Measured Max Frame Average: 1,134 nits I haven't actually watched this properly yet so I can't comment on the subjective experience of viewing it in HDR. I was surprised to see how much variation there was in terms of highlight brightness; as you can see here sometimes the literal sun is kept under 200 nits but other times a truck headlight will exceed 1,000. Of course this is all how the director wanted it, given Jan de Bont was personally involved with the remaster. A couple of the storm scenes - mainly the first tornado encounter and the leadup to it - have been given a very strong green tint, which matches character dialogue. Thankfully it's not just a blanket tint, as the strongest "greenage" is reserved for the sky and clouds while the roads and vehicles underneath will have a more normal color. It was done with some finesse. The movie makes pretty consistent use of the P3 color space. Any Rec. 2020 colors appear to be basically incidental spillover. If someone could analyze the Blue Velvet 4K BD it would be really nice. Looks a bit dark to me from screenshots I've seen, but who knows what the analysis will show.

I thank you for the suggestions, will probably do Flatliners then. Some of them have already been analyzed by either me or someone else.
I'd also like to inform that each title usually takes me between 6 to 10 hours of work to complete (sometimes more) so don't expect me to do 20 films per week. :P |

The Guyver
Unearthed Films - USA HDR Formats: HDR10 Measured Max Peak Brightness: 1,728 nits Measured Max Frame Average: 679 nits A pretty strong showing for this low-budget cult piece that never got a standard Blu-ray. It's a very grainy movie but the grain field is mostly resolved quite well. There's a very wide dynamic brightness range, but even on my OLED (which needs a lot of tone mapping for the highlights) it consistently looked quite good, neither too bright nor dark. There's a pretty conservative use of the wide color gamut, but things occasionally poke over into intentional use of the P3 space.
