Bit confused by the "additional anniversaries" distinction. Are the ones on the bottom getting re-releases or not?

Yeah, that's a little confusing. Final Destination should be coming in 2025 (there's a new sequel out next year).

I went over a lot of this thread but it doesn’t sell this set much. I’ve wanted to pick this up but so many complaint. No much from what I’m reading on how good these look on 4k. Older titles are usually always best served from this treatment but it seems so muddy here.

Mad Max imo has easily the most unique setting as it depicts the start of the apocalypse. The end of law and order, the collapse of society. A true dystopia. All the other films are set in the post-apocalyptic setting that the series in known for. It feels like a western on wheels with some weird horror elements to it, but at its core it's a simple revenge story. And the Toecutter is the most interesting villain in the series imo. Not only is Hugh Keays-Byrne excellent and downright vile, he is doing all this evil stuff by choice - not out of necessity. This is the huge difference between him and let's say Humungus. I also love Brian May's score to death, even prefer it to his Mad Max 2 score. The action is very impressive and I love how low to the ground the camera is for most of it. Miller obviously improved as a director and storyteller over time, but you can't deny that the first Mad Max has a very special vibe to it, that is not only unique but unmatched to this day. I love this movie. And I have to give it the same rating as Road Warrior and Fury Road, which is of course a perfect 5/5
Mad Max 2 defined not only the series but the entire post-apocalyptic subgenre. The setting is iconic, the plot and dialog is extremely barebones with absolutely no fat or filler. Everything that you see or hear serves a purpose and follows an internal logic inside this movie universe. This results in very immersive worldbuilding. The visual storytelling in this is on a whole other level. The action and stunts are still to this day unbelievable. The tanker chase at the end is legendary. This movie also features my favorite depiction of Max. The villain and his motive is a bit lame though. 5/5 Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is a very mixed bag for me. The first 40 minutes feature some of the very best the series has to offer and the Thunderdome fight is legendary. But then the movie suffers from a tonal shift and it feels like watching a different movie all of a sudden. It just doesn't work as a Mad Max movie. The big chase at the end is impressive, of course (on a technical level) but the cartoonish PG-13 feel of it hurts the movie a bit. Aunty Entity is also not really a villain and when she's just "eh, whatever" at the end I'm like "WTF is this sh!t". My least favorite in the series but still a good action movie. 4/5 - But 3/5 as a Mad Max movie. Mad Max: Fury Road is George Miller's ultimate flex as a filmmaker. This is basically Road Warrior dialed up to 11. Much of what I wrote about that movie can also be applied to Fury Road: plot and dialog is dialed back to an absolute minimum to allow for maximum effect in visual storytelling. Everything that you see or hear serves a purpose and follows an internal logic inside this movie universe. This results in very immersive worldbuilding with such deep lore, that's often only hinted at and incredible attention to detail. The visual storytelling in this is on a whole other level. The action and stunts are completely insane and jawdropping. Miller said he considers action scenes that are character driven to be the purest form of cinema and visual storytelling, because they are highly kinetic and if done right, they convey all the necessary information that the audience needs to understand the plot. He knows exactly where to place the camera and how to block, shoot and edit these action setpieces like no other. His understanding of cinematic geography is unmatched. He knows how human eye tracking works and he takes advantage of that. We never have to adjust our eyes to the next image, Miller makes sure he presents us a frame where it simply isn't necessary to re-adjust. His action scenes are full of kinetic energy, and everything flows so naturally, plus it's easy on the eyes. Perfectly orchestrated action and chaos. He is the absolute best at it imo. This is why he designed the film to be a 2 hour long chase scene - to tell the story mostly visual, overcome language barriers, and keep that high level of kinetic energy - and he excells at it like no other fimmaker imo. I think the saying "a movie is only as good as its villain" truly applies to Fury Road. Immortan Joe is my favorite villain next to The Toecutter, ironically both played by the great Hugh Keays-Byrne. He is an active part of the plot and his actions are understandable, albeit despicable. This is also a movie where every single element just comes together perfectly. Be it directing, editing, cinematography, production design, worldbuilding, acting, score, visual effects, etc. Fury Road is lightning captured in a bottle. This is filmmaking at its most impressive. I truly consider it to be George Miller's masterpiece and if somebody said this was the best action movie ever made, I'd have to say I couldn't disagree with that statement. 5/5 (my favorite Mad Max movie) Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is not a fast paced, high octane, adrenaline filled chase movie. It's not Fury Road 2.0. It's a much slower character driven odyssey covering 18 years. Once again, Miller delivers with excellent worldbuilding, insane action setpieces and most impressive filmmaking. He is one of the very few directors that takes advantage of new technology to help him tell his stories in a very meaningful manner. It doesn't distract from the film, it helps to immerse the audience in this post-apocalyptic wasteland and make everything come to life. The Stowaway scene alone is one of the most perfectly orchestrated action scenes ever put on film. This is cinema and movie magic. This is why I fell in love with movies. And I am glad that filmmakers like Miller still get the chance to make films like this in this day and age. I am so sad that Furiosa and Fury Road were boxoffice bombs. Because this might mean we'd never get another movie this impressive on a technical level and from a visual storytelling perspective. There are some shoddy greenscreen shots, but I know why they had to go with that option on this movie, so it doesnt' bother me as much. The movie is so immersive, I can happily overlook them. Like Mad Max, this is a revenge story, which I am a huge sucker for and it ends on a very satisfying note. Dementus is also a deep, multi-layered villain, who is convinced that he does all these cruel acts for the greater good and not because of personal enjoyment (mostly). I can't see any other filmmaker doing a better movie than this in this decade. 4.5/5 Last edited by BladeRunner2007; 01-29-2025 at 11:29 AM. |

What is the best way to own the 4K UHD of the first 3 movies ? I see the anthology is got a good price , Don't mind the 4th movie if that's the best way to get them . Looking at the caps for the first movie Kino is clearly the winner .. Buy that first ? I don't see anymore Kino , Its just WB for the other movies .

Kino's has more grain, slightly different black levels and stretches the image for a portion of the movie. WB's has more grain management, slightly stronger blacks and fixes the issue with the image being stretched. The real super fans (the crazy obsessive ones like me ![]() EDIT: Also, WB's disc also drops the "American" English audio track, but Kino's retains it. |

Buy the Kino, buy the WB Road Warrior and Thunderdome. Done. I wanted to be efficient so I didn't go for the brick set and wanted slips anyway, but the brick set has been dirt cheap before, I probably paid more doing it this way, but as a plus I don't have to own Fury Road (I never watched it in my old set don't @me breh).
