I just used a SKILL screwdriver set from Best Buy for like $15... plus you'll have the star AWL for taking apart your PS3 later..

Just go to Home Depot and get a #1 and a #0 phillips screwdriver and you'll be set. Or you can order wither of them from Amazon, but why wait.

I used these guys with my first yellow light of death and after weighing the option of going slim I'm gonna do the $75 JD fix again. This time with the 9.99 warranty. (Might spring for the 14.99/2yr plan) It only warranties the fix itself, but if I can get another year out of my PS3 I'll be happy.

I highly recommend the warranty as my fix from JD only lasted 5 months.

If He is able to fix again, what's the best way to back up my saves?

External Hard Drive formatted to FAT32 using the Backup feature on the PS3.

Go to Walmart - get this:
http://www.stanleytools.com/default....TNUMBER=66-052

Should be less than $8 with tax
Use the largest Phillips screwdriver and make sure to use downward force - check sig for slim hard drive removal

It could be more than 1 factor that is causing the issue which would be out of the repairer's hands.

For example if its environmental factors where the PS3 is located. Also it could be something more serious with the PS3 than what the repairer is able to detect/repair and would require a brand new PS3 to fix.

Well, mine was located right next to the AV receiver. It's been there for 3 months. I don't know if that's why mine overheated but I've cleared out a new space for it and this time I'm going to put it all the way in the bottom of the TV stand so that it stays cool.

Mine was a reflow repair, solder issue, heating and cooling breaks key connections, just a matter of time before it happens again and again. Still cheaper and more feature happy to pay 75+9.99 for another year or so. I don't want to lose the 60GB model's SACD functionality.

I tried this too. 5 months, dead. I think I might try standing it up for "chimney mode" as someone called it. Do I need a stand for that?

To put it vertical? No, not for the 60GB. Only the slim needs a stand for that.

I guess I'll try that when I get it back from JD. Just sucks reading that doing this didn't result in much better results. (if at all)

Download the latest firmware update from Sony's website to a USB and have it in when you turn on your PS3 next.

Be sure to follow the instructions on the website for how to properly update your PS3's firmware via USB.
