That was just because Liam Neeson is awesome, and he used his awesome powers; some of which rubbed off on Ewan McGreggor allowing him to do the same, though the effects were temporary. Hope that clears things up.

because it made more sense for Disney to move one of their biggest blockbusters to the end of the year to allow for more profits. No sense to launch two titans in the same month. It was nothing about being scared as Disney owns both.

I may get booed and hissed, but I would have preferred the Avengers 2 to be moved to December.

Well seeeing how Star Wars has much more of a tradition in May I would totally agree with that.

Why would Disney want to compete against itself? That would make zero sense.
Avengers is current, and the hottest moneymaker right now. Star Wars, as I'm sure you know, has been on the side lines for decade. Plus with a segment of the fanbase spewing venom at all things Star Wars, I'm sure Disney want's to see how this release goes.
I think it's a great move by Disney. I couldn't care less what month the film is released, as long as it's done well. Which, by all account, it sounds like it will be just that!

Nowhere did I imply "Avengers" sorry if you took it wrong but by "latest and greatest comic movie" that pretty much covered them all/ big summer films in general (it seems like all the big summer films we have nowadays are comic films). What does the fanbase and spewing venom have to so with a December release?

You didn't have to, as Avengers is the film that takes the May slot. Saying "comic movie" is senseless as different studios own the rights to different Marvel characters. So now that we cover that....
Disney wants to put it's biggest moneymaker out in May. If they thought that moneymaker would be VII it would get the spot. But it's not, and I'm sure a small factor into that decision was the fanbase being so divided. Disney keeps trying to do everything right by the fans, but they know that some fans have already had their childhood ruined and will hate Star Wars just to hate it. (waaaah)
The bigger question would be if VII outperforms Avengers, will VIII get the May slot in 2017? I guess we'll have to see.

Not that this has aything to do with the question I asked but they know how to fix the fanbase...but that's for a different discussion in another thread. So you don't feel there was any trepidation with competing against other summer films? Maybe they arent so sure of themselves? Is it possible Avengers just happended to have the slot long before Star Wars? Are you positive that Avengers being "current" is the reason for the decision? Did you read this somewhere? Sorry so many questions but I would really love to know the answer to this.

No they don't. How could they? Releasing the UOT on BD, would please a few diehards out there.
But neither you, nor I, nor Disney can quantify they just have to procede as best they can. And as I said, it seems like they are hitting homerun after homerun with VII.

Haha! I don't think it's possible for me to jinx this project. VII is going to be big! The appeal is so wide, spanning so many. Will it break records? I hope it does, but more importantly I want it to please Disney, and please them A LOT!

And the answers to my other questions? Homerun after homerun? Please elaborate as I am kinda lost on your reference.

Now who? is he going to fight...that's the bigger question you can't see cause of the trees blocking our view...but most certainly trees will fall.

And how is he not going to end my cutting his own arm off or more likley stabbing himself in the chest when he brings his blade up to fight? Thats the biggest question of all..

however I will admit that it looks cool though...

Disney actually did plan for May 2015, if I remember correctly it was in the announcement when they purchased Lucasfilm. However, delays in production have forced Kathleen Kennedy to ask more time and push to May 2016. This was not possible because Bob Iger had promised Disney shareholders for 2015 release to start seeing returns from their $4 billion investment.

Think about the marketing in regards of food tie-ins...

Carvel/DQ: A blizzard type cone/shake that bears the name of the ice planet.

The possibilities are endless at that time of year!

Every news release they've made has been lauded by the fanbase. Probably not you...but that's not a big surprise.

I agree.

It might be a stretch...but I think he can bring the blade up so that the crossguard is parallell to the body, rather than lateral, so the blades don't actually point inward and cut him.

I would also think that using The Force would help these people control their movements so they can swing away without cutting themsleves (hence all the flashy acrobatics in the PT). But maybe that's just crazy talk too, I dunno.

I envision a Mustafar-themed cone, chocolate with veins of strawberry, so it looks all volcanic.

Tattooine can be orange sorbet.

Coruscant can be all glittery.

Endor and Yavin: green and blue with white swirls. Maybe mint flavored.

We might be on to something here...

I think it all depends, on how awesome this movie is. Titanic did well mostly because of positive Word of Mouth. If The Force Awakens is an amazing film (Which I can anticipate it will be), then it could blow away all box office records easily.

Also the fact that this is a true sequel to the greatest Trilogy ever put on film ... well lets just say, its opening weekend for sure will break every record.
