Sky Fibre Unlimited

Entertainment and sport which includes all the football channels, FX, Atlantic (essentially HBO) Film Four, Sky one, loads of documentary channels and a few music.

Netflix is going to integrate with Sky soon so all of their content will be viewable alongside Sky’s in the menu and catch up services.

I have Sky Q which is 4K.

It’s not as high as yours but it comfortably streams 4K, and handles multiplayer COD and FIFA with very smooth gameplay. PS4 downloads load very fast.

Sky supply the modem. I have it hardwired but it works great wireless also.
Speaking of angles, what’s yours Donster? Like Flyry before you, you ask a question of me then ignore the answer. Speaks volumes to me.

Sorry, I didn’t think any follow up was necessary since we literally replied to one another within minutes of one another. Given your speeds are similar to mine ( wireless) and you are hard wired you shouldn’t have any issues streaming outside of personal bias

Don’t they have manners where you come from? Just a simple acknowledgement would have sufficed. I was replying directly to YOUR request after all. Or are replies only warranted when the opportunity of a piss take arises? Question not statement.

That new with Comcast has to be formally agreed though from various competition authorities & governments across Europe in countries where Sky run their business.

It will be dublin. Especially with Sky news guaranteed to run for at least another 10 years.

What does manners have to do with anything? I’ve alread explained myself in my last post. So why does it feel like you are looking for trouble where there isn’t any?

I don't use Sky for my broadband, but I do subscribe to the Sports channels. We'll have to wait and see what they do with their subscription costs. If they do go up steeply, as some sections of the media are predicting, then I'll have no hesitation in cancelling. I love watching sport on TV, but as Steedeel says, there are alternatives.

I have become disillusioned with the Premier League CV19. It’s got to the stage where a team will be looking to spend 200 million just to have a chance of staying in the league. I have my season ticket and despite thinking it would be awful, I have thoroughly enjoyed league one so far. It’s been a breath of fresh air.

As for the football on tv, I might just get a away game subscription IF they work on a app for the tv. I think it is called Ifollow. From next season it will show live EFL games in this country that DONT have a traditional 3pm Saturday kick off I believe.

Anyway, I better stop there as people on here get upset if anyone goes off topic.

Fair enough, I just think it’s common courtesy if a member specifically asks for something and that person responds. Just the way I am.

Well I decided to support both formats today. I really did not like being stuck with only the digital media format. Today I bought the Sony X700 4k bluray player with the 3 Avengers movies and Black Panther. I also have an Apple TV 4k with at least 740 movies. I will stop buying digital movies for awhile. The 4k movies and hd movies on the Apple TV 4k are a mixed bag for me, some movies look really good and some look worse than the blu-ray, plus they have too many issues. The Sony x700 will be only be used for must own 4k movie titles and blu-ray movies, plus I can sell the codes that come them.

It Starts!

Sam Raimi has been approached to do a SHORT FORM horror anthology series for new SHORT FORM start up New TV. Like I said before, like Youtube before it with user generated content, this is going to get younger people set on the idea of regular drama and genre tv being ten miutes or less and their patience for long form content will be severely affected. Nothing but bad news this, especially as the service has been designed from the ground up for mobile phones. Troubling times ahead.

The services has some pretty big backers as well, Disney is just one of them.

Give it ten Years and ten minutes will be too long. It will be 1 minute with constant updated episodes. This will be joined by 1 minute watchisodes on your wrist that accompany the main feature, face to camera shots, filling you in on side plots.

Can’t wait! Isn’t the future exciting guys!

About 1985 I stopped watching commercial TV in the US because of the availability of cable, public TV and movie rentals. I started watching commercial TV again in the early 2000's because of the availability of shows in 1080 HDTV with Dolby Surround. The shows were recorded on a HTPC and the commercials were edited out of the shows.

A 1 hour time slot show actually ran about 43 minutes. Now shows are down to about 39 minutes. The last time I checked a 30 minute slot the show actually ran about 19 minutes. The FCC used to regulate the amount of commercial time but all of that is out the window now. IMO, everyone is turning over every rock they can to see if there is a dollar to be made. They are targeting screens 5 inches and up.

Last spring I discontinued watching any commercial TV. With Amazon streaming, Netflix streaming, Netflix Blu-ray by mail, PBS*, my own disc and video files library, etc., I have more stuff to watch than ever.

*In the US I get PBS the same way PBS affiliates do via AMC-21 satellite. Use DVB-S2 satellite receivers and pro tuner cards in PC's. Record a lot of PBS science shows and store them on a server.

I just finished watching season 13 of Supernatural, each episode was still 42 minutes long for this show that is allocated one hour on TV. Most, not all, of the half hour slotted shows that I watch are still at about 22 minutes per episode.

The Big Bang Theory, starting in season 10, reduced their episodes to just 18 minutes each, but it was widely reported that that was due to the high cost of producing the show; some of its actors were getting $1M per episode.

There are definitely more commercials than in the past; an original episode of Star Trek, also allocated one hour on TV, ran 51 minutes when it originally aired.

I ditched cable TV service in 2014. I refuse to pay for 18+ minutes of commercials per hour. I buy my TV shows on disc and not only do I avoid the commercials, I am only paying for the content that I actually want to see. A win all around for me.

I was going to say the same thing about the last two seasons of Agents of Shield, though they are right at 43 minutes. A whole extra minute!

I am unconcerned and I am not afraid.

The development of new short form content does not mean that any of your fears will come to pass. The conclusions that you blindly leap to are both predictable and baseless. It is just another choice on an ever growing menu of choices. I welcome more entertainment options; I am not scared of them.

There is no evidence that traditional long form content is in any danger. There is no evidence that large displays are in any danger, either. I have not seen any evidence that the production of either is in decline. Not a single solitary shred to support any of your unfounded fabricated fears.

A lot of people spend a lot of time away from home. There is nothing sinister about developing content to entertain people who are often mobile. It is just another market and another business opportunity.

If you want to scare me, you will have to try much harder.

As long as it doesn't change for "adult" videos I'm sure the world will be alright.

Television has used a formula similar to this for decades. Nothing new here.
