The persistent myths about decreasing attention spans have been debunked as well:

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-38896790

"the idea that attention spans are getting shorter is plain wrong."

"She (Dr Gemma Briggs) studies attention in drivers and witnesses to crime and says the idea of an "average attention span" is pretty meaningless. "It's very much task-dependent. How much attention we apply to a task will vary depending on what the task demand is."

"Some also suggest that evidence of ever-shorter shot lengths in films shows attention spans are dwindling. But the academic behind that research says all it shows is that film-makers have got better at trying to grab our attention."

"There is no evidence human attention spans are shrinking."

Nothing but bad news this, especially as the service has been designed from the ground up for mobile phones. Troubling times ahead.

The services has some pretty big backers as well, Disney is just one of them.

Give it ten Years and ten minutes will be too long. It will be 1 minute with constant updated episodes. This will be joined by 1 minute watchisodes on your wrist that accompany the main feature, face to camera shots, filling you in on side plots.

Can’t wait! Isn’t the future exciting guys!

Multiples of 1 minute. Not 1 minute. It would be divided.

I think you are over reaching here.

You said his latest prediction reached "new lows"; that implies that you think his character is somehow in question. If so, that's both unfair and unsubstantiated.

This latest prediction may say something about his state of mind regarding the future, but it in no way says "everything" about his mental state. Besides, neither of us are qualified to make that assessment. I once said his predictions were "nucking futs", but that was a joke, not a diagnosis.

I criticize and lampoon his predictions as much as anyone here, but I do not feel he has reached any "new lows" nor would I judge him entirely on the basis of his curious predictions. I think he has an excessive apprehension towards the future of video content and the devices we use to enjoy it, but that's as far as I would take it while still reserving my full rights to be a sarcastic ass as regards his dire warnings.

There is a fine line between humor and insults. I routinely think I am just being funny, but there are times when I am simply being a jackass. Intentions are one thing, reactions are another.

It Starts: Part 2

Netflixes first live action ‘interactive’ episode will be one of the new ‘Black Mirror’ episodes coming in December.

Before you know it, every other week will be interactive this or that.

They are looking to get ‘one up’ on other services and this is how they will do it. This will be big and that’s bad news for people like myself Who just want to get engrossed in a good film without stupid pop ups asking me questions every five minutes. This could finally kill films and tv as we know them.

If I want video games, I play on my PS4.

I think it is lost on you how popular Black Mirror is.

Meh, I've dealt with commercials and watermarks and little banner ads for other shows. I'll manage. Or I'll watch something else.

My nephew raves about it but I don't stream so I've never seen it.

Is it good?

Take a deep breath and relax. A new experimental episode of a single show on Netflix will not kill films and traditional TV shows. It won't happen. If it is successful, it will just be another way to enjoy home entertainment and not the death of all we hold dear. I'll bet you one of my unwanted digital codes that all will be just fine.

In the more than half century that I have been alive, I have seen many technological advancements and many new types of entertainment, but I have not seen a single art form die. Not even one.

I must return to my daydreams now; they are so much happier than your gloomy foreboding.

Actors would migrate to the interactive films and tv though in much the same way they do with tv now. Interactive tv may end up being where the money is.

Exactly Octogan and Vilya. We’re way beyond the triple digits in the parts department with Steedeel. Seriously, you need to relax, as my fellow mid century compatriot said or you are going to have a stroke by the time you’re 40 Oh, and stop bogarting all those digital codes Vilya. Help a brother out. I’ll give them a good, new home

Okay, let me flip that back on you then. Has anything up to this point in your life interfered with your viewing pleasure? Since I’m 9 years older than you I can honestly say no from my perspective. I still enjoy what I watch. Whether it is cable, streaming or DVD/BD.

No, but technology is moving at a scary pace. Decades ago we had tv and primitive game consoles. Look what we have now. The downside of that is new storytelling formats replacing old ones. The radio is still here but podcasts are waaaaay more popular with younger people. I believe the same may be true going forward with short form content, interactive films/tv and even how we watch stuff. Netflix is VERY influential and the fact they are experimenting with several movies and tv in the interactive format makes me feel a little sick.
Similar to the way a person who lives for music would feel if they were told that music would be remixed and resampled with original tracks replaced. Devastation in other words.
