You'd need to buy a cheap steelbook that you wouldn't really mind ripping apart, and then to remove the plastic inlay from it.

Keep and eye out for steelbooks with a lot of damage to them on ebay, if you really just want the plastic interior from it.

I do have a cheap and damage one I got from Zavvi. The cover was not printed correctly. Thanks for the suggestion.

You can easily make a template of your own using various programs. I use Gimp which is free image manipulation software.

I've been making my own interior artwork using .jpg pictures with Gimp. I followed your instructions and have gotten it to work almost perfectly. Only problem is, when I scale the .jpg image to the size of your template, it reduces the resolution. Is there a setting I need to tweek in Gimp to fix this?

This thread doesn't seem to get much attention these days, but... Taking steelbooks apart ended up being a lot easier that I thought. Gladiator and Batman Begins were my only two that didn't already have the interior artwork included. (sorry for the glare)

Thanks to BasedSPACER for this awesome artwork. This process is only difficult the first time you do it, and only if it's a steel worth more than $10. After inner art and a plastic tray swap, a $5 bargain steel looks like a pretty nice collector's item on par with higher end releases

Woah! This is great.
I would make one for Shaun of the Dead, but I'm to scared to damage it.

Been working on the first 4 Fast & Furious Best Buy exclusive steels since they came blank on the inside. There is very limited HQ artwork for the first 4 films. Only finished with 3 so far.

The Fast and The Furious

2 Fast 2 Furious

Tokyo Drift

Still working on Fast 4.

Those looks fantastic. Well played. Shame these don't have inside artwork. I would have bought all of them but I don't really find the time to do these inside art projects anymore and I don't like to keep blankies.

^WOW. Those F&F steels gorgeous. Amesome job. I wouldn't mind setting mine up like that. If you're willing to share those images, I'd be very much obliged! Keep up the good work.

Here are the images I used along with the spines if you want to include that.

The Fast and the Furious

2 Fast 2 Furious

Tokyo Drift (my favorite artwork, it just fits the color scheme of the outside well IMO)

Fast 4 (still not sure about this artwork)

I'm working on an alternate for Fast 4. Also, if you guys don't want the spines then you need to crop them down and print the left and right pieces on separate pieces of paper. Don't try to print the whole thing including the spine on a standard size 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. If you do, the size will get completely messed up. I crop it down so only the left side remains and print it to a piece of 8.5x11 glossy paper and I do the same for the right side. If you want me to just post the left and right pieces without the spine, let me know. Also, to make it easier to cut I add a stroke in photoshop.

Here's the alternative I made for Fast 4. There isn't a lot of great images to use, especially high resolution images.

Fast 4 (alternate, I like this one but I'm still not sure)

Aw, hell with it. I will post the right and left pieces only for those who don't want to go through the trouble of cropping themselves and if you don't need the spine. I get a little too nervous working on the spine since I spend good money on these steels and can't really risk screwing up.

Here's the other four without spines ready to print. I use photoshop to print and make sure I leave "scale to fit media" blank. I add that black line around some of them because the image has too much white and makes it a nightmare to cut so I added that cutting line.

Finally had the chance to sit down and finish Fast 4. I went with my first design since I printed it already. I don't think it looks too bad.
