AMC's movie talk for X-Men: Days of Future Past posed an interesting question - along the lines of, do you have more faith in this movie because it has the screenwriter for Days of Future Past?
And my answer is - I'm still against this movie. Simon Kinberg wrote a great X-Men movie -- the best X-Men movie yet. My big point is this: just because he "got" X-Men doesn't necessarily mean he'll "get" the Fantastic Four. To further my example: Bryan Singer, director of DOFP, directed the three best X-Men movies. DOFP is, for me, the best one. However, he handled another comic book property - Superman - and Superman Returns was mostly crap. He "gets" X-Men... but not Superman. So, I'm still not sold on this movie. Miles Teller is f-ing annoying and is no Reed Richards. I still think this is going to be an MTV/The CW version of the Fantastic Four / Chronicle 2: The Fantastic Four. A relatively low-budget film churned out to hang onto the rights. Ultimate Fantastic Four sucks, and this is based on that, instead of the classic comics where the FF weren't a bunch of Abercrombie models. I reserve my right to be wrong. It could be good, sure. And if I hear good things or I think it looks good, I might go see it. But right now - I'm still not on board. Maybe Kinberg wrote a good script, who knows? But it is very possible that just because he wrote an amazing X-Men movie doesn't automatically mean that he could write one just as good for the FF. |

Simon Kinberg Compares FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot to IRON MAN and BATMAN BEGINS
Simon Kinberg has been very busy for the past month or two, heavily promoting the latest X-film. Here, he speaks about Josh Trank's upcoming Fantastic Four film, talking about the tone, inspirations and Michael B. Jordan's casting: "I think he'll become the iconic Johnny Storm." With shooting underway on Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot, writer/producer Simon Kinberg explained that Trank pitched the film on set of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Kinberg praised the "fresh" vision, saying that "the tone of this movie will feel as unique as when you saw Iron Man, X-Men, or Batman Begins for the first time. It’s not as goofy as the first movies; it has humor in it, but the humor is much more real and comes from character, not pratfall jokes. It’s a much more dramatic film than it is a comedy." As expected, he compares the film to Chronicle, as well as "Raimi’s first couple of Spider-Man movies". Of all the backlash towards the movie's casting, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch arguably generated the most. As Kinberg explained, the filmmakers "didn’t go into it saying we wanted to cast a particular race for any part. Josh had worked with Michael on Chronicle and I’m a big fan of Michael’s, so we knew he was the best actor for that part. We knew casting an African-American Human Torch would be news, but I can tell you it’s something that Stan Lee loves, and I can also tell you that having been on set and seeing Michael bring him to life, he’s really spectacular. He’s doing something really cool with the character that I think will become the iconic Johnny Storm." Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released on June 19, 2015. Somewhat movie related news...
The Fantastic Four No More? Well, the comic books anyway... Still not officially confirmed by the House of Ideas, but looks to be true that Marvel is eliminating use of The Fantastic Four and all related characters (Dr. Doom, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Skrulls, and The already killed Watcher) from their comic book universe (for now, anyway) just to snub Fox. http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/05/...r-to-snub-fox/ And here is an update with further proof... http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/05/...ur-characters/ Of course Marvel wouldn't dare do that with The X-Men, because they are way too popular and bring in a lot of money, but I do think it might be an affective strategic move on their part to put the FF on hiatus just to see how well or poorly Fox's upcoming reboot does. Then, if it fails, Marvel will get the rights back and reboot both the FF comic and film franchise again the way they see fit. And if Fox's movie succeeds, then Marvel will probably cash in on it with a new comic reboot anyway, possibly even conforming to Fox's changes with the team. How will they explain where they've been? The Fantastic Four's Unseen Adventures in The Negative Zone! |

I just heard. Now, while I know this is already being discussed, Marvel Comics has put the squeeze on their X-Men and Fantastic Four comics as a deliberate snub at Fox Studios. This coming form Blastr:

New interview with Trank from Cinema Synonym Magazine, how FF4 will be affected with the Star Wars news:
I had just begun looking at some nice blue fabric for potential FF4 costumes but after getting the news of the Star Wars gig, I dont have time to focus on silly superhero costumes...Mikey is gonna be thrilled for the young Jabba role. We are going with the human Jabba who was shown in a deleted scene of A New Hope. It will be a great origin story of how Jabba turned from man to monster. |

This reboot will crash and burn...all too obvious. Why even reboot these characters when they are merely a collection of X-Men type wannabes, the only decent character is Dr Doom. There is simply too much better competition for this to even stand a chance.
