I’m kinda baffled that the long version CaboBlanco is apparently lost. It wasn’t some rough cut that never got a release - the long cut was shown theatrically in Europe. You’d think it would exist somewhere in some form.

...Granted, I don’t think the additional scenes would make it a good movie, but it could make it a bit better.

It’s probably worth picking up for cheap at a Kino sale (I think they’ve had it at times for $6-7), if only for an always Paul Talbot commentary track.

The Japanese Blu-ray of Farewell Friend, only had an English track as well.

That release and this new Kino release are the longer cut of Farewell Friend which is good though. Was shorter on PD DVD releases back in the day.

Who cares for a longer cut of that movie?

I´d like to see the longer cut of "Hard Times". Bronson had two more fights(one against famous black stuntman Bob Minor) but it was cut off from the movie.

FYI that the new Kino Bronson Blu-rays, Farewell, Friend & Someone Behind the Door, shipped on Tuesday for those who pre-ordered. It technically isn't scheduled for release until next Tuesday, 11/19. That is one positive about pre-ordering - you can typically get a movie a few days before it hits shelves.

Still, there's some fluid and impressively composed Scope camerawork and the scenery's nice, although this is the shorter version of the film. It's an unlikely candidate for restoration and Kino couldn't find the longer version that originally played in France, so this is probably the best we'll get.
I was a subscriber to the weekly Variety back in those days and I swear for about a year+ before this movie opened, there were color inserts promoting it in the newspaper every single week. Promotional inserts for upcoming productions/releases were very common back in those days and I always enjoyed seeing them, but the ones for CABOBLANCO were total overkill and I got really burnt out on the movie long before it ever actually played in theaters. I still haven't seen it.

I am considering going back and watching "Love and Bullets" again to see if I can find any enjoyment in that film.

The acting of Jill Irland´s was so bad in that film.

That is my memory of it as well, that Jill Ireland was intolerably bad. I can't help but think that Bronson's insistence on his wife being cast in his movies probably cost him the chance to make some better movies, as some directors/producers probably had no desire to be forced to cast Jill Ireland in their movies to get Bronson.

I kind of liked Caboblanco. It was definitely stupid but sort of enjoyable. Some of the elements of the movie reminded me of Archer: Danger Island.

Although it's not a Burt Reynolds film it's arcane enough to have genuinely been one of their references.

Was following an eBay auction for The Mechanic at $50, looks like it sold for that price.

I must be one of the very few people who love Love and Bullets, it's in my top5 of 70's Bronson's starring vehicles...

Top 5?

Bronson made "Death Wish", Hard Times, Mr Majestyk, The Mechanic and Breakheart Pass in the 70´s.

Please tell me why "Love and Bullets" should be better than one of the five above mentioned movies?

Not to mention "Telefon", Chato´s Land and "Violent City".

Because he likes it more than some of the ones you like seems the pretty obvious answer. And it's not as if Telefon is so universally loved for your including it not to seem as much a headscratcher to others as L&B is to you..

I love Breakout, The Stone Killer, Breakheart Pass, Someone Behind The Door and Cold Sweat a little less and Red Sun, The White Buffalo and Telefon even less... I don't really like St. Ives and Chino though... As for Twinky, I don't like it at all...

I just found out that this is the second time I say that about Love and Bullets in this thread and the reaction was exactly the same the first time, too. So I had to rate Bronson's '70s films in that post. Here is my explaination: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=955
