I got Paranoid Garden in today. Weirdly, there is no UPC or barcode anywhere on the jacket, which is a sure sign that this edition, anyway, almost certainly won't be available on Amazon.
The cover is reversible, with the inside cover artwork images of breast nudity. The disc is a DVD-5 with an extremely high Average Video Bitrate of 8.24 Mbps for the 1:00:04 feature. The picture is in the OAR of approximately 1.33:1 and has been encoded into a 16:9 1.78:1 image frame, because the subtitles extend beyond the picture frame and into the black bars. The packaging states that this is a "Brand New Transfer from the Original DigiBeta Master" and the image quality looks great for SD, with closeups showing impressive detail. I did find myself wishing it had been upscaled on a Blu-ray Disc, though. The image is not free of issues, as I noticed some minor aliasing, but this might be baked into the master. Surprisingly, the audio is the full 16-bit LPCM 2.0 track, which is still extremely common on many Japanese adult Blu-rays and is certainly the uncompressed original audio for a video from 1994. It sounds fine, although remember that this is a low-budget AV title that was shot quickly, and it definitely has a little bit of a "shot on a video camera" feel to the audio, if you get my meaning. Extras include an interview with Tsurisaki Kiyotaka (4:28) who speaks in English. Though his accent is prominent, he is perfectly understandable, although he may be reading a prepared response, like a cue card, off screen. Tsurisaki actually does all the talking, here, and so he manages to get quite a bit in despite the short run time. I won't spoil much other than to say that he does claim to hate the pixelation of genitalia in AV, so it's a shame he never hung onto his master files (many of the uncensored leaks of recent AV titles are said to have come from one or more former directors), though that was probably impossible for an AV director to do in 1994. Otherwise, you get a stills gallery (1:11) and Massacre Video's trailer (1:01) both set to the military march music used in the film. As for the film, I have to say I wasn't terribly impressed. It's only an hour but it feels far longer, with many slow pauses and a general sense of inertia. Although there is quite a bit of nudity, there is a lot of strange foreplay and little actual sex, considering this is an AV. What little sex is present is completely ruined by the larger 1990s pixelation, which itself is almost unbearable. How Japanese people consented to this is beyond me and I found myself incredibly thankful that the mosaic is (usually, depending on the studio) far less prominent in the Blu-ray era. This leaves you wanting to watch for the "plot", but there is even less plot than sex (of course) and I had a really difficult time figuring out what was supposed to be going on. It's something to do with incest and an army deserter and freeing up your sister's bowels using your tongue: ![]() and so on. Yes, you do see the result and yes, you do see two sisters kissing while one has "shit" around and in her mouth, but it looks like chili paste, so thank god for that... Anyway, I guess the film is fine. It wasn't particularly savage (thankfully, from my point of view) and sadly, it wasn't very erotic, either. The few sex scenes were not really "completed" either, so that was very disappointing. I am all for Massacre releasing JAV with English subtitles, but I really think it has be available uncensored and preferably, not involve feces or urine. |

Some seem to take a while, others like American Rampage seem to go real fast. If you really want the LEs I wouldn't suggest waiting.

I've seen it but it's been many years ago. It's incredibly gory (as with most Olaf Ittenbach movies) and falls into the middle of the pack for me with his filmography. My favorite movie from him is Beyond the Limits followed by his two SOV early movies, Black Past and Burning Moon.
