Friday the 13th: Part VII The New Blood (1988) Its Jason vs. Carrie. This is a pretty weak watch. It’s also shame this sequel suffered from the cuts made by the MPAA. The good thing about this is Kane Hodder’s Jason. His stunt work is pretty damn great and the reveal of Jason’s face after its splits wide open is an icon moment for sure.

*Night of the Seagulls (1975) Every seven years for seven nights, seven victims must be sacrificed. A doctor and his wife move to a coastal village where they encounter strange things and discover that the village harbors an ancient evil that demands ritual sacrifices by the undead who rise from the sea. This is a pretty cool Spanish horror film and even though the zombies in this movie might be a bit too static, they all look fxcking awesome.

I'm still salty over not getting the uncut version in the mega tin set.

13. Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man

Four years after Larry Talbot's death, two grave robbers break into his tomb and open his grave. But the moon is full and the grave robbers find that Larry's body is perfectly preserved. Under the full moon's light, Larry turns back into the Wolf Man and emerges from his grave to unleash a series of murders. With the help of the old gypsy woman, Maleva, he seeks out Dr. Frankenstein to find his secrets of life and death so that Larry can end his life, but he encounters Frankenstein's Monster instead.

With all of the actors appearing in each of the films, I guess it was only a matter of time before the characters started to interact, and Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man is the first of the Universal Classic Monsters to bring them together. It works as a direct sequel to both The Wolf Man and Ghost of Frankenstein and is carried by Lon Chaney Jr.'s performance. Bela Lugosi, who played Ygor in the previous two Frankenstein movies, now plays the Monster after Dr. Frankenstein put Ygor's brain inside the Monster's body. It was fun to see these monsters finally interact on the screen, and the final climactic fight scene was exciting, although fairly short.

9 Oct - Halloween III: SotW

So glad Halloween III is finally getting the respect that it so deserves. The premise...a mad business man deep seeded in a deranged cult want to red the hills with the blood of children. What's not to love. Oh...and Stacy Nelkin is a siren!

10 Oct - Prom Night (2008) 1/2

What a piece of sh*t of a movie. All the kills are cutaways. It literally has nothing to do with the original in terms of story or characters. Just rips off the name. Brittany Snow is good but the rest is complete crap. And actually, I don’t have a problem with the killer in this. He actually would’ve been pretty effective had they given him some cool kills. Bottom line. I still haven’t seen a great slasher movie that was PG-13.

Me neither. They just don't exist. The Slasher genre and PG-13 are just antithetical.

Terrifier (2017)
Extra half-skull for effort! There is some good writing here (especially in the beginning) that helps to separate this from more-typical slasher films. The pizza-palor scene, in particular, has a great slow-burn quality. I like it that everyone in the pizza parlor knows that this guy is trouble... in most slasher films the villain is invisible to most of the characters for most of the run time, but here he is, obviously disturbed, sitting openly in vivid florescent light. Unfortunately, after this the film moves into a more typical slasher environment (abandoned building) where characters get picked off, mostly in isolation. This is my biggest problem with the slasher genre in general: when the only character that knows about the existence of a killer is the one currently being killed, there is never any chance to build suspense. Still, there are some ghastly moments and a few funny ones, not to mention a couple of cool surprises. The worst thing about the film is the way it looks, and the extreme low budget doesn't seem to be the problem. Someone here has decided to give the film a blown-out, contrasty look during postproduction and it looks very ugly, digital, and even more extra ultra low-budget than it really is. I read somewhere that the filmmakers were going for an old-school "grimy" look, and so maybe that explains the color/contrast choices, but they missed the look of older slasher films by a mile. If anything, the film looks very modern.

10/1 - Piranha (1978)
10/2 - A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master (1988)
10/3 - Psycho (1960)
10/5 - Christine (1983)
10/6 - Piranha II The Spawning (aka Piranha II Flying Killers) (1982)
10/7 - Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)
10/7 - Dracula Has Risen From The Grave (1968)
10/8 - The Evil Dead (1982)
10/9 - Taste The Blood Of Dracula (1970)

10/10 - Carrie (1976)

An all-time classic I can watch over and over and never tire of. My wife and I will often make jokes about "dirty pillows". Brian De Palma is a genius film-maker, I love just about everything he's done. Looking forward to picking up the Criterion release of Sisters later this month. This was my first time watching the Scream Factory disc, the movie looked great but I had zero time to delve into any of the bonus features.

The Final Girls is a well regarded PG13 slasher; as is Happy Death Day.

31 Days Of Halloween!!!

10/10: The Crazies -

Previously Watched Films:

[Show spoiler]
10/1: Hereditary [First Time Viewing] -
I believe in everyone has a right to their own opinions, but I really don't get the hype for this movie. Had some good moments but overall I thought it was pretty meh, felt most the acting was bad(especially the son) and I had to fight to stay awake.
10/2: Mandy [First Time Viewing] -
What a ride this film was. Very trippy, visually stunning, and Cage played crazy/wild Cage. My favorite kind of Cage.
10/3: Summer Of 84 [First Time Viewing] -
Really dug the vibe and music of this one. Not something that has a lot of replayability but still worth checking out.
10/4: Child's Play -
10/5: Return Of The Living Dead (1985) -
10/6: Fright Night 3D (2011) -
There's only a few remakes that I like, this is one of them. Yes I love the original, yes it is a classic. But I love this one as well, and it's so great in 3D. Colin Farrell plays the part perfectly, the way he is aware of the surroundings at all times. Top notch. Usually add this to my October movies every year.
10/7: He's Out There [First Time Viewing] -
I have a big crush on Yvonne Strahovski. So I had to give this one a watch. Good idea but sadly not done well. Felt a bit too generic. If done right it could have been a pretty interesting horror flick.
10/8: Poltergeist -
10/9: Alien -
10/9: Aliens -

There isn't an uncut version because the negative of that footage was destroyed. The VHS workprint footage looks awful (it's on the Blu-ray) and would only make the movie wetter, not better.

What irked me is the uncut footage from Jason Goes To Hell DOES exist(it was released on DVD) but the tin doesn't have the uncut version. Doesn't make sense.

off to a rough start but will be getting back on track..

9/28 – Sinister – 4/5
9/29 – The Boy – 3/5

10/11 - Lights Out - 2.5/5

First time viewing and started out well enough but went downhill FAST! Paper thin plot which really could have been developed and explained making for a good movie..too bad they didnt... also, most of the end just doesnt make sense with how Diana acts....almost rounded up because the main girl is so hot lol....
overall, one and done viewing wise.

I was off to a great start in September, but then NY Comic Con rolled around and now I'm a bit behind on my viewing, but do have some great memories from NYCC, including this gem from the Alex Ross booth:

10/10:

Halloween (1978)
Saw this in the theaters and it was such a thrill to see this on a large (and properly masked) screen with an audience. The DCP was in great quality and with awesome sound.
As for the movie, it still holds up and rightfully earns its place as one of the greats.
