Seamless branching?
Or is it possible we could be getting the uncut on blu-ray and theatrical on 4K?

No, I hadn’t heard of it. I assumed it was a thing, but when The Town did both editions on the same disc and cramped the space I figured maybe it wasn’t possible.

Ever thought your whining also derailed the "convos"? Smell the food and take a bite. It's done. Talking about similar movies in a thread when no new news about the release is available keeps it fresh. Obviously (maybe not to you) the conversation will turn back around once we get news on the release. It's clear the talk about Scream 4 (on a thread about SCREAM) is still in-tune with the themes of the thread. It's not like we're talking about Casablanca here.

I presume you’re talking about the Blu of The Town as the UHD just had the theatrical. In which case you’re correct, for in Ye Olden Days™️ Warners liked to stuff two separate encodes of a film onto one Blu, I recall I Am Legend as another one. But pretty much everyone else had been using either separate discs or branching since DVD, Warners were just being cheap (like re-using bit-starved HD DVD encodes for their early Blu-rays).

I’m not aware of anyone having put two separate encodes of one film onto a UHD thus far, not for stuff with the same aspect ratio anyway as Ladykillers has the 1.37 and 1.66 versions on one disc, and even the earliest ones with multiple versions were branched.

Much appreciated. I guess my one particular instance is the only time that has occurred. Thanks!

It does pose the question as to why they don't just do this all the time, then. Like, why force an unrated version on me when it's not the one I saw in theater? What if it's too graphic or violent for my taste? What, I couldn't get that version in theater and now I have to? I'd like for them to just offer both if it's legitimately no cost outside of seamless branching.

I finally managed to get a copy of the uncut version of scream. Its nothing special.
I do need to sit and watch the series again and ill get the first one in 4K for sure. I do have 1 and 3 on VHS and dvd, then I have the blu ray set of 1-3 and scream 4 seperately.

I recall liking 1 and 3 a lot, 2 not so much and wasnt into 4 . Ill see if my opinions have changed over the years.

final specs. no mention of unrated:

In celebration of its 25th anniversary and just in time for Halloween, SCREAM will be released for the first time on 4K Ultra HD and in a newly remastered Blu-ray on October 19, 2021 from Paramount Home Entertainment.

25 years after its theatrical debut, SCREAM remains a wildly entertaining and terrifically terrifying cinematic experience. Directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson, the film is a brilliant deconstruction of the horror genre that pays homage to the conventions of slasher films while upending them with clever twists and witty dialogue.

The new SCREAM 4K Ultra HD, Limited-Edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, and Blu-ray include a brand-new look back at the film and director Wes Craven, featuring archival behind-the-scenes footage and new interviews with stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, as well as screenwriter Kevin Williamson and the directors and other cast members from the new installment in the franchise scheduled to premiere in theaters in 2022 from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group. The discs also include access to a Digital copy of the film and the legacy bonus content detailed below:

· A Bloody Legacy: Scream 25 Years Later— NEW!
· Audio commentary by director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson
· Production featurette
· Behind the Scenes
· On the Scream Set
· Drew Barrymore
· Q&A with Cast and Crew
· What’s Your Favorite Scary Movie?
· Why are People so Fascinated by Horror Films?

Swings and roundabouts, my dude. People kick up an almighty ruckus if the unrated/extended/directors cut isn't on x disc and it's only the theatrical, but other people get bent out of shape if the theatrical isn't included.

Studios don't do it all the time because seamless branching is more complex to author (and to this day can still cause audio drop-outs when bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD/Atmos with a branched title), so for much of the time it's just one or the other. And whichever one they pick is going to piss someone off.

I could cry. My favorite piece of cinema art coming to 4K, newly remastered. It's the best day for me in a while. Pre-ordered a steelbook and standard copy.

A new trailer promoting the 4K release has been uploaded on Youtube, and despite the video compression, the restoration looks stunning.

Compression is crap as expected but yes, the colors and contrast definitely look way better than the previous standard blu-ray.

Dude, even WITH that typical YT compression it still dumps all over the old HD transfer in every measurable facet.

The night scenes look so lush! Drew's scenes don't look gray and lifeless anymore. I couldn't be more excited to see it again that way!
