After all, when it comes down to it, I believe movies are about entertainment, so the most cerebral are not always the most enjoyable (take the pure badassery of 300 outranking Perfect Blue for example). Most of the classics I've seen over the past few years were great, but there is a very high, personal threshold movies must cross to enter my heart! Thanks for the feedback btw.

I really like every title on your list, with the exception of Blair Witch (which I haven't seen since VHS), Michael Clayton (very boring to me sorry, but I am very interested in why you it made your list), and Garden State which I haven't seen. Nice to see your appreciation for Paul Thomas Anderson. His films are pure genius. You might also like to know that my #30 inspired a scene in your #14 (at least our lists share some connection ).
with some i am nostalgic as well. with one of the majors being The Blair Witch Project. it was the first horror film i ever saw in the theater (with my mom who hated it and was completely bored and i was 10 and scared sh*tless ) and it was the first (and really only 1 of like 5) scary movie to really traumatize and scare me. and the films scares are my own personal fears / scares. little things like yelling when outside in the dark (really creeps me out and makes my skin crawl just thinking about it ).

as for why i love Michael Clayton... i can clearly see why a lot of people find it boring, it is slow moving and i would NEVER watch it with friends or the girlfriend. it's definitely a film that i watch by myself because it is so slower paced. but as to why i really enjoy it, i LOVE the cinematography - the color palette especially fits perfectly, the score, the performance by Clooney and the character he portrays: someone who has a very cryptic, unknown job and it seems like something i would love to do, but he really doesn't have it all, he's
[Show spoiler]broke, divorced and his family life isn't perfect and now his job might be gone and he will have nothing left
, but in the end, he perseveres

i remember the first time i watched it, i was just hypnotized. the performance by Tom Wilkinson was phenomenal as well. i guess it's kind of hard to explain? (and i haven't watched it in forever, but just going off memory and remembering things that stood out to me) although bringing it up now makes me want to watch it in a bit

But if I did watch them all, it would be 4.5 hours long, only a little longer than watching Return of the King EE

When someone mentioned Babel earlier, I immediately thought of The Fountain. I blind bought this a couple months back but as of yet have not watched it.

I had a hard time reviewing Iron Man 2 here as that had a shit ton of extras, had to watch it over two days. Aliens is the motherload, no pun intended.

My mom saw the theatrical (as did most critics) and loved it. Many critics didn't know how an additional 2 hours could be added. I assure you that at no point does the film drag--it's pacing is fantastic for a four hour film. Easily one of the best and most effective epics out there.

I had a hard time reviewing Iron Man 2 here as that had a shit ton of extras, had to watch it over two days. Aliens is the motherload, no pun intended.
Well he described ALL of the extras, I don't know if he actually watched them all before writing the review. He may have.

in the Alien Anthology thread and in his review didn't he say he got it Friday afternoon? so if he started right away, and the review wasn't up until either late, late last night or early this morning (i was up until 1:30 where i am (central standard time)) so if he stayed with it, that gives him around 4 days = 96 hours.

depending on if he likes to sleep or not, and when the set arrived Friday, it could be done.
