What's a greater offense against 'engaging with the content properly'? A 1 inch window on a phone at arms length or any sized pip window on a 19 inch screen from across the room? And as for locked at 1 inch...can't you just tap it to bring back the standard interface? I would experiment myself but I only see the miniplayer icon on my desktop system. I can't find it on my phone using chrome or the youtube app. |

It already has.
Movies are 130 years-old and are going strong. Commercial television is 77 years-old and going strong. Both have experienced more changes than anyone could have imagined and here they still are and they continue to experience growth. Produce some evidence to support even one of your wack predictions and I will stop laughing long enough to consider it. Until then... ![]() I have always preferred Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone to yours. The original was infinitely more plausible, but yours is certainly funnier. I’ve been waiting to see if anyone from the convenience crowd mentioned Amazon Echo or Google Home and don’t recall anyone saying they use such. So I will ask, anyone using voice automation with their TV, media room, home automation or sound system? If you do use voice automation, how are you using it?

There's a little of my own paranoia to overcome as well. I feel like having voice activated devices is equivalent to me bugging my own home. I seem to remember that there were instances where Samsung voice activated TV remotes uploaded things it had overheard to Samsung's servers that had zero to do with TV operation. Also, there was a recent news item where Amazon Alexa eavesdropped on a couple's private conversation and sent a recording of it to a friend in the couple's contact list. I have trust issues with these devices. Do I need therapy? ![]() https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...b0fdb2aa51b23e And then there's the random creepy laughter from Amazon's Alexa: https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/...out/404476002/ I really a need a possessed device in my home. ![]() Last edited by Vilya; 10-09-2018 at 04:09 PM. |

Well, it's one thing to not mock reasonable beliefs / opinions.
But when those beliefs are about as reasonable as believing that Smurfs exist and they are out to kill you, at some point any semblance of logic has flown right out the window. |

People can have what others consider outrageous or unusual claims or opinions without receiving derogatory names. But go with it, let’s see what happens if you guys want to go that route.

In addition to privacy concerns, in general, with what limited experience I've had with voice operated tech, it just isn't as efficient as pushing a button. A couple of years ago, when our cable box/DVR was acting up (I have Comcast), I went to swap it out. I had upgraded to their X1 box (which came at no additional charge, it was just an option at that point), which had additional features, including being able to record more shows at the same time than our previous box. One feature that it has for searching for on demand content, etc. is a remote where you push a button and can say the name of a show or movie, and if it "hears" you correctly and that content is available, it will bring it up and whatever viewing options there are. I use it sparingly. Every once in a while I'll try it as opposed to navigating the menus (more on the menus shortly) to find something. My wife and I will laugh when it mishears us (whatever it thinks one of us said will be written on the screen). It's just not effective. The only reason why I sometimes try it is because, while not impossible to navigate, IMO the menu system on this box (which is different than our old one) is not quite as user friendly to manually navigate as our previous box. It feels more like a Netflix app through a smart TV or game console, with random recommendations, etc. You can navigate through networks, channels, etc., but it feels like it takes a few more steps to get there, and isn't quite as intuitive as the menu from the previous box. That's one of the things that annoys me about a lot of voice activated tech is that in order to get people to use it, they seem to purposely make the manual alternatives more cumbersome to navigate than is necessary. I recall that being a complaint with the Xbox One when it first came out and the inclusion of Kinect was a default standard with the system (it since went from no being a required inclusion to being flat out discontinued), and they were pushing the voice command aspect of it. When a menu system is logically laid out and reasonably intuitive to navigate, it's just far, far better than even the best current voice-based tech that currently exists. |

I don't necessarily personally want to go that route, but for anyone who does, what I foresee happening is a whole lot of nothing, just as would have likely been the case if you had reported things in the past that you stated you never did (but apparently considered).
