Pipe dream mate. Sounds like you are to become renter? Is that fair presumption?

No. I have several movies I own digitally because I used all the codes from my blu rays from the start. I have accumulated over 150 movies digitally. I just found myself streaming my films over using the discs. It's not that my way is better, it's just how I prefer to consume my media now.

More importantly, it doesn't mean the same. E.g. Vudu says they may be removed "for a limited time", which is obviously quite different from what you implied before.

As for as backing it up, that would require removing DRM and the law is unfortunately on the studio's side in that case.
No. You can back up downloaded iTunes movies without removing the DRM. In fact, the second part of the paragraph from the iTunes ToS that you quoted above is:

"As you may not be able to subsequently download certain previously-acquired iTunes Eligible Content, once you download an item of iTunes Eligible Content, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage it, and you may want to back it up."
Quote:
While certain editions may become rare and expensive, it's highly unusual that a specific title does.
I know plenty of cases.
Quote:
Digital content is still in its relative infancy so not a lot of content has been removed yet, but it's foolish to think the majority of content will continue to be available for many decades.
Why? There is in fact very little incentive to remove digital titles, since the cost of keeping them available is almost zero, which is not the case for physical media.

Yes, but nobody lost any content since Target transferred the accounts to CinemaNow.

There could also be a fire or a flood that destroys your Blu-ray collection. Life has risks, but that doesn't mean you have to cower in fear and reject everything new.

Yes but that is because there is still a market there for digital films.m what happens if that's not the case? Who is going to take over then?

Extreme example. We are talking likelihood. It's far more likely that folk will lose their digital collection.

I think the likelihood of a fire, burglary, or movers losing a box with my discs is far higher than Apple imploding in the next 5-10 years.

It's a shame because you are (IMO) contributing to a mobile only film world in future.

I didn't mean by it what you probably think. When I moved to the US years ago, several shipping containers with goods fell overboard when the ship got into a storm in the Atlantic. I basically lost half of my belongings.

Really? I don't. Apple are losing the plot as we speak IMO. They are not the dominant force they were. Yes, they are still huge but I can see signs that they are losing their grip on us consumers.

Wrong quote sorry! Was meant for Fiffy. .

Sorry, I forgot that they are your arch enemy (they make phones and "smart watches" after all).

You are so wrong. I'm writing this on a IPad. I adored Apple of old. They are just a 'me too' company now. Incremental updates are testing people's patience. As for Siri? IMO, weak, very weak.

If you are one of those silly people that don't insure your possessions then I can see how this could be an issue.

Haha just saw this. You're off your rocker with the s*** you're saying. I'm by no means strictly advocating digital. Many many times I've reiterated they both have pros and cons. When you look at things rationally instead of slamming you're hands on the table yelling "digital is the devil" you can notice that.

I never once mentioned a watch and youre whole watch philosophy is preposterous. No I wouldn't watch a movie on my watch. I don't watch movies on my phone either (something you will again ignore). However I actually am good with choice. For some crazy reason I realize the world is not all "me, me, me". There are actually people with different ideas on how to watch something.

Also just so you're aware most movies in theaters are digital. You better grab your pocket sign and get to your local theater.

What is their competition doing that's so much better? I'm not exactly defending Apple, though. I like their products, but I agree they aren't as innovative as they once were. It's just that the competition's products aren't that much more innovative either IMO. As for iTunes specifically, they do digital really well. I don't like the idea that some of your purchased iTunes content could someday be removed without compensation, but maybe if that really happened on a large scale, there would be grounds for a class action law suit against them. Now that would be a shame if it came to that. That item in their Ts & Cs seems like a "just in case" and not something devious.

Trust me guys. Blu-ray is still the way to go.

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...w.avsforum.com

Read some of these comparisons, they are really well done. In every one of them, you can see that the online delivery formats lack in quality.

Then add on top of that, they're burdened by DRM which sort of defeats the entire point of having a digital copy. If I can't throw it on a flash drive and watch it on my PS3 or whatever HTPC software player I have, what's the advantage over just buying the Blu-ray or DVD?
