Picked up Pixels 3D at Big Lots today. Sad it wasn't $2.88 like most people got it for, but hey it was $5 I wasn't gonna miss.

I watched The LEGO Ninjago Movie last night.

The 3D was much like it was in the previous LEGO movies, disappointingly conservative but still infinitely superior to 2D. On the downside there are a fair few out-of-focus backgrounds, excessively fast-paced cuts and plenty of shots with unimpressive depth, but there's also a lot of action with flying vehicles, rockets etc where the 3D gets to shine with everything properly separated in its own space. Ninjago City even feels like a giant LEGO playset. Jackie Chan's character gets to poke his staff out of the screen a few times and there's some mild pop-out but nothing special other than a sequence where the black widescreen bars expand so that characters can thrust their weapons out of the screen over them.

I actually started watching this in 2D a few weeks ago but switched it off and waited for the 3D version. I'm glad I did. There's some horrible sentimental garbage at the end but otherwise I had a good time all the way through the film, it was far better than reviews indicated.

I was hopig to buy most new 3d uk releases, but the lego batman one put me off a bit, found it quite conservative and that's on a film I have interest in due to it being batman, so could not justify £20 on it.

was the first lego 3d any better?

I would say no. I haven't watched it at home yet but theatrically it was very disappointing.

it is so annoying when you can have great 3d on things like creature from the black lagoon from the 1950's, yet something like lego films you would expect it to be pop out madness and its v weak

Got to disagree about the first Lego movie. I personally thought the 3D in that was great on 3D blu (didn't see it theatrically). I found the 3D to be way stronger than the Batman movie. I would say the first Lego movie has fairly strong 3D.

I wonder how much of this depends on your setup. I have the same combo as Paul H which is 2016 OLED with Oppo 203 and about to set my settings to what he changed it for the best optimized 3D. I want to watch the Lego movies again and see if it makes them better or not since they were very underwhelming with the default settings.

Hi evil,

I too found the Batman Lego 3D quality not to live up to the hype. The first one seemed a bit better.

Yesterday I got the IMAX 3D Limited Edition of Flying Swords of Dragon Gate and The Monkey King 2 in the mail.

Last night, I watched Flying Swords of Dragon Gate in 3D with the IMAX Aspect Ratio and I thought the 3D is fantastic combined with IMAX ratio making it that much more enjoyable for me, this will be the version I definitely be watching more than my U.S. 3D edition.

I’ll be watching The Monkey King 2 in 3D later

Not everyone wants pop out madness on their 3D.

What "pop out madness" is there in Creature From The Black Lagoon?

"No pop-out madness", on the other hand, is a disease affecting many modern 3D viewers. It affects them in one of two ways. One is a fury generated by spending money on a 3D film and then finding out that the 3D only goes back into the screen. That's how it affects me. "WHAT WAS THE POINT OF MAKING THIS IN 3D IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO USE IT PROPERLY?" I scream. That's a madness I'm glad to have. It actually seems like sensible logic to me, but what do I know? I've only seen a few hundred 3D movies, after all.

The other way this madness affects viewers is a fury at seeing anything poking out of the screen more than even slightly. "GIMMICK! GIMMICK!" scream the victims of this sickness, "THERE ARE THINGS STICKING OUT OF THE SCREEN!" "I DID NOT EXPECT THIS WHEN I PAID TO GO AND SEE A 3D MOVIE!" This is the saddest madness of all.

It always breaks my heart when I hear people call 3D gimmicky especially in the 4K forums lol. I mean some movies absolutely try to be gimmicky but if there's a few pop outs here and there that's just icing on the 3D cake. Hansel & Gretel:Witch Hunters 3D is a great example of a movie trying to be gimmicky and it absolutely delivers.

well yeah, I get frustrated when I see 50s films like lagoon, dial m, inferno and despite the old equipment the 3d depth is fantastic, then when you see something like lego batman , a fun film I think we should have every right for it to look at least as impressive for depth and pop out as the old films

I sometimes think some people dont deserve great tech. It’s the same crap I hear about VR which I happen to think is a wonderful technology also. Plus, the 3D in games is stunning.
