Disney issuing a takedown notice is fine. Using the courts to find out who leaked it is not cool at all. They should let it go. This isn't missile defense secrets - it's a movie.

And how do you know Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, is not our generation's version of 'Argo?'

Arndt's draft just wasn't working, and Abrams wanted a working draft for the best movie possible. Outside of that, honestly, it'll be the best possible movie we could hope for it to be. LucasFilm has to make it that way, they won't relive he prequels again.
I don't think that's a valid argument. The movie can suck in spite of everyone's best intentions. I'm sure at the time they were made, most people at Lucasfilm thought the prequels were going to be great even if some did think Uncle George had gone a bit nuts.

It's also very hard to tell when you make a film how it's all going to come out. Read any screenplay. They mostly seem lifeless and trivial and those are the ones that are actually written well. And when I've seen storyboards of films, they make most films seem awful as well. And there are the great novels that turned into lousy films - even the ones that seemed like they were written for the screen when you were reading them.

You don't really know until it all comes together and even then, you've been so close to it, you don't really know for sure. Don't forget that when the first Star Wars was about to premiere, Lucas shuffled off with Spielberg to Hawaii, because he thought the premiere was going to be a disaster.

If the rumor about an early release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is accurate and J.J. Abrams is championing Disney for a summer release, it's only going to stand a chance at happening if they can get the effects work finished and score completed by then.

I'm sure they could get the rest done by summer, guaranteed, but they might not have enough time to finish effects or the score if it's rushed out into the summer. They are far along already but it would be pushing things. I'm sure Disney will consider it though if this is what J.J. Abrams really wants. It would certainly squash the new Avengers film at the box-office comparatively (although both would do extremely well).

I don't agree with that. I think they'll be a huge backlash if the classic characters are basically cameos. It's one thing if these characters pretty much pass the torch to the new characters by the end of the film. But it will be quite another if there's little of the classic characters in this new film. The fanbase will go nuts. (Not that the won't go nuts no matter what).

Note that I'm not necessarily talking about screen time. Alec Guinness wasn't actually in that much of Star Wars. But his presence was felt.

I also don't believe Hamill's statement that he wouldn't have cared if he hadn't been included in the new film. That role is the best thing that's happened to him in over 30 years and was probably a huge payday.

There would be no desire for Star Wars going up against The Avengers since they're both Disney.

I agree. Even if the release date move is what J.J. Abrams wants, Disney will probably not cave and it will come out as currently scheduled.

A summer release date would be cool, though.

That release date bump up was talked about a page or so back, and it came from a non-reputable site looking for clicks. There's no way it moves up.

Avengers 2 releases in a little over 2 months on May 1st. So a July 4th week end release for Star Wars would probably have little impact.

Terminator Genisys otoh...

Edit: to be clear, I don't buy the move itself, those things are set a long time in advance and generally a change is to push farther not forward by 4+ months with such an intensive post prod project.

Disney has Ant-Man in July too. That would hurt their own film. They don't want to cross compete and hurt the takings of either side.

Seriously guys, if Ep VII was completed, ready, and in the can TODAY it still wouldn't be released until December. They aren't moving it up, we just have to patient.

Or they could move Ant-Man to December.

I'm fine either way if they can finish in time.

Walt im now seeing it pop up on International Business Times, it appears it is now gaining steam and may have some truth or traction.

Quote:
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2015 that is scheduled to be released during winter. The latest reports, however, claim that J.J. Abrams, the director of the seventh episode of the epic space opera, wants an early release date for his movie.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is currently scheduled to be released on Dec. 18, 2015. Based on YouTuber Votesaxon 07’s video, Movie Pilot reports that J.J. Abrams wants to release “Episode 7” in the summer of 2015. The report by the aforementioned entertainment news publication claims that the 48-year-old director made the announcement at the Visual Effects Society Awards 2015.

The publication claims that the reason why J.J. Abrams wants to release “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” almost six months before its scheduled date is the alleged plot and images leaks from the sets and script. The moviemaker is now worried that these plot leaks will make the film “predictable and not worth watching” for the audience.

According to the website, moving the release date forward would be “an extremely brave move,” putting it up against other fan-favourite releases such as “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Jurassic World” and “Ant-Man.” However, shifting the release date means a lot of work for the moviemakers and the studio. Meanwhile, Ikwiz reports that Disney is “seriously” considering J.J. Abrams' demand of summer release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

I hear the title is really "The Ancient Fear" and that the movie begins with a severed hand clutching a lightsaber which tumbles through space and lands on Tattooine and everyone goes looking for Luke to give it back to him, only to find Luke has gone insane and turns evil.

Seriously...it's the freaking internet. Clueless, gullible, or downright dishonest writers needing daily clicks will publish anything about Star Wars. You have to read with better eyes. There's NO WAY Episode VII is moving into the summer 2015 frame. NO....WAY...
