I was tempted to explain how you go about developing this strange thing called "film" using a darkroom and chemicals, but I suspect my time would have been wasted.

Was in Walmart yesterday and noticed they were displaying physical disc in displays unlike any other Walmart I have been in. This type of display is new to this store because I was in here just several weeks back and it had the typical Walmart display. The Walmart is located in Waynesville, NC, a small mountain town in western NC. The layout was the same mess most Walmarts have, DVD’s, Blu-ray’s and UHD Blu-ray’s all mixed together. They did have the more recent UHD Blu-ray’s grouped together on an end cap.

And before anyone says anything, there was no one in the picture because I waited for folks to leave.

IMO, Walmart has a long way to go before they will be a serious competitor to Amazon in the media world. On those rare occasions where Walmart has the best deals on titles of interest I just order online and have them sent to my local store for pickup or shipped to me if they have free shipping.

Yes, it's very similar to what we have over here in supermarkets such as Tesco, Asda, etc. It's places like Fopp or HMV which are shops dedicated to physical media, but they're a little further away from where I live.

For Netflix subs, I am in the process of gathering a little data about Netflix prime time speeds. If interested, click here for thread.

Walmart doesn’t have a global presence either. We don’t have them in the U.K.

The next time I have Netflix, I will be happy to participate in your new thread. I add and cancel Netlix cyclically, so I am unsure of when the next "add" cycle will come around.

I get to spend my weekend identifying and ordering parts to repair my sister's 6 year-old laptop which has the virus known as Windows 10 as its OS.

It is afflicted with the black screen with mouse pointer issue and it gets trapped in endless attempts to repair the hard drive. I have never worked in the confined spaces of a laptop's interior before, but I do have some tried and true profanities ready to yell at it.

Actually, his co-worker asked HIM what he was reading and his reply was that he was reading about blu-rays. He proceeded to tell him about blu-rays. His co-worker then asked what a blu-ray was by saying "what's that?" At no point in the post you are referencing did flyry ask the co-worker if he knew of a forum dedicated to "films on a high quality format." The co-worker initiated the conversation, asked the questions, and flyry answered them.

It is also a pretty big assumption to assume that this co-worker "doesn't care" about films just because he is unaware of what a blu-ray is; maybe he just didn't know? Maybe he cares enough to pay his money to see films at the cinema, but not enough to own a copy? Maybe he is one of those "digital" fans we hear tell of? It is not an all or nothing concept here; people can have varying levels of interest in movies.

This young co-worker may now start to have a more avid interest in films and blu-rays after having heard flyry's explanation. I remember when I first met a laser disc aficionado and that encounter was the catalyst that turned me from being just a casual film fan into the film fanatic that I am now. The journey to acquire knowledge began somewhere for each of us.

Try reading what is written and not reading into it things that were never there.

Who asked who is irrelevant. Blu-rays have been around for way over a decade. As a film fan, anyone would know this, regardless of their preference for cinema or lesser quality digital. I am almost certain the guy won’t be a big film fan.

Someone who isn’t on Wendell’s blacklist want to quote me here? Man, that set up looks really tight and seems to maximize the sales floor compared to what they’re using now. My local store is anorexic. I’ve got a feeling your store is a test market or higher sales store. Have you, or anyone else noticed it in other area stores? I also participated in your Netflix thread and shared my speeds via my wireless router.

My own broadband is not working well at all today due my ISP having a nationwide outage all across Ireland. We had Storm Callum bringing in high winds & heavy rain over the country from overnight on Friday all the way into today. We than had more heavy rain across the east of Ireland which has stayed since this morning.

I just read RTÉ's News stories on their digital teletext service which said that Eir have a widespread DNS outage all across Ireland. It is affecting some customers in parts of Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Louth, Wicklow, Meath, Cavan, Cork, Sligo, Mayo, Donegal & the midlands. They said on their Twitter page that cannot confirm a timeframe as to when it will be restored. It is affecting both fixed line & mobile broadband services on their network. I can't do anything about that because I did try going onto various websites for tonight & this site and Irish Rail works for me so far. None of the other sites work for me at all.

If I tried to rely on my digital collection on UV services like Flixster Video or Netflix & Amazon Prime Video; then I would have been in trouble. My physical collection is still intact at home. My TV connections still work as well.

Yes, I have worked on Laptops, everything is smaller and you have to be very patient. I recommend that you pull the Maintenance Manuel on your Model of Laptop. It will tell you how to access the different parts. Replacing the HDD is fairly eaisy, and you might as well put in a SSD. Getting to the Mouse will be a little bit more difficult. I have replaced Screens and MB's on them....Good Luck!

It wasn't even asked at all; so your post WAS irrelevant. At no point in flyry's post did he say that he asked his co-worker if he knew about blu-ray.com's website. In fact, in flyry's post all the questions being asked were asked by the co-worker.

What is actually written matters; you added something to flyry's post that was never there and then made fun of flyry for something he never said. You allowed your bias towards flyry to cloud your judgment. Reading comprehension is ALWAYS important.

10 years ago this co-worker was 14 and he was possibly interested in other things typical of teenage males that age. How can you even pretend to know what his interests are based off a two sentence second-hand account of a conversation you were not a part of, yet alone assume what his future interests will be? Talk about being judgemental and diving to conclusions!

My interests have changed and evolved (there's that word you love again) over my lifetime many, many times and they will likely continue to change while also becoming more refined.

I was not born with an interest in films; I discovered them in a whole new way when I took a cinema class in the 80s. I was 24 at the time, coincidentally. At this time, vhs was the only way you could own a movie and collecting them was still impractical as many were not priced to sell. Many vhs tapes were meant to be rentals only and buying them cost $99.99 each in 1986! That's $230.30 in today's dollars; collecting was not viable then.

Hell, my Hi-Fi vcr cost $800 in 1987 -that's $1,777.74 today. Movie libraries were just unaffordable then; my pre-recorded store bought vhs tape collection was tiny. Many of us had to settle for taping off of cable television and buying stacks of decent blank tapes got expensive fast.

I was working a part time gig at an electronics store when I met a co-worker who was big into laserdiscs. He told me all about them: better image, better audio, and for the first time: movies presented in their correct aspect ratios. My interest in movies was rekindled. I could now own movies on a vastly superior format and I have been a voracious film collector ever since and I will continue until I die. You never know when you will meet someone, or experience an event, that forever changes you even in an area as simple as one's hobbies.

Isn't even a film fan? Doesn't care about films? There's probably a lot of audio stuff I've never heard of. Does that mean I don't care about music?

The world isn't as binary as you like to make it out. You paint pictures of a world where people either as much about quality as you do and define quality the exact same way you do or they don't care about quality at all. Where people watch movies the 'right way' or they're not film fans.

But the world ain't like that. Things aren't always all black or all white.

Some people look at film as an art form. Some people look at film as an entertainment medium. And some - probably most, I would think - see it as both.

I just heard now from this site that Google Play are upgrading movies to 4K for free.

More details here.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...09&postcount=1

This is great news coming from Google. But people will be happy with this if the apps they use to stream them can work properly to play the movies in the first place.

I already ordered a new SSD to replace the ancient conventional hard drive in it. All indicators point to a failing hard drive. I am adding more and new memory as well. I will be changing the OS to Windows 10 Pro so that there is more control over privacy settings.

The amazing thing is how affordable all of the new parts are; I was pleasantly surprised!

I didn't ask him anything. I just said i was reading about blurays and he asked what bluray was. I didnt even bother responding.

He is a casual film fan. Always asking if I'm going to see stuff like venom or creed 2.

He did see Incredibles 2 which even I never made it to
