Another round of love for To Live and Die in LA right here. Quite simply one of the greatest 80s films. It makes a great double bill with The French Connection.

I watch it every year around Xmas just because it starts on Dec 20 and continues over the Xmas period into January. So there you go, not only can you get blank looks if you bring it up, you can choose it as a Xmas film and confuse people even more.

C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005) is one of the best independent movies I've ever seen, a true favorite of mine. Still the greatest movie by Jean-Marc Vallée, director of Dallas Buyers Club, Wild and the upcoming Demolition. Yet, when I mention the movie, nobody seems to know it. But when I give it to people, they all love it.

I like this movie too.
Have you seen any of Francis Veber's other comedies?
If not I recommend 'Le Diner Des Cons' (1998),'Tais-Toi!' (2003) & 'La Doublure' (2006).

Yeah, that one was pretty great!

For me, Smoke Signals, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120321/?ref_=nv_sr_5 is a movie no one knows about and has been in my Top 10 for a long time.

To the Left of the Father (Brazilian film)
Adam Resurrected (little-seen Paul Schrader masterpiece)
Carlos Saura's Flamenco Trilogy (at least Criterion released it in their Eclipse line) and Tango (despite having been Oscar-nominated)
The Search (Zinnemann's best; rarely mentioned nowadays but much praised in 1948)
White Dog (a cult favorite among certain groups of cinephiles, but no one in the "real world" knows about it)

Detour (2016). A superb neo noir that pays nice homage to the original 1945 version.

I'm sure all of these movies have a fanbase, but I don't hear anybody talking about them.

I always thought Michael Collins and A.I: Artificial Intelligence would be big mainstream hits. Shame that they weren't.

Too Late (2015)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2394063/

This movie checks too many boxes for me to list. Great Story..Shot on 35mm..John Hawkes...Shot in 5 takes..non linear story.

This is a movie Tarantino would love.

The writer/director's insistence that it only be presented on film in theaters means that next to nobody saw it and I'm pretty sure tanked his career. Which is a shame because I'd love to see where he would go from here.
