Not quite as filmic or jaw dropping as Vinegar Syndrome's, but an exclusive hd view of the full frame transfer, beating the hell out of the old vhs or dvd!
Awesome--same price I paid. It's a no-brainer when the Anchor Bay Blu-ray is pushing $60+ for used copies. The 88 Films transfer looks great and you get a few additional features on top of it.

How does the French edition compare to the 88 Films disc?

The French disc looks alright with a video bitrate between 25.1 mb/s - 30.00 mb/s. It also has a lossless audio track. The main thing this disc has going against it is the aspect ratio. The French disc is 1.78:1 as opposed to the Anchor Bay and 88 Films discs which are both 1.85:1. Instead of opening up the image area to account for the different ratio they cropped a little bit of the image off of the left and right sides of the frame to remove the black bars. Very frustrating that these things are still happening in this day and age. It's also missing some special features from the 88 Films release, but it does include most of them.

Charles Kaufman Intro
Super 8 Behind the Scenes Footage
Eli Roth on Mother's Day
Mother's Day at Comic Con 2010

All in all it's worth picking up if you can't find the Anchor Bay or 88 Films release for a decent price, but only if you can live with a slightly cropped image and some missing special features.

I hear you. This is one of the few releases I missed out on. I've been eyeing the Region Free French release and the gray market Spanish release for quite some time now but have been hoping to see someone pick it up for a new US version.

We are pushing nearly ten years since the last U.S. blu-ray release. It's definitely popular enough to justify another release from someone. I wonder who has the rights? Troma?

Troma and director Charles Kaufman share the rights.
