Cannibal Holocaust: “The most controversial movie ever made has finally arrived on DVD! Banned and heavily censored throughout theiworld, here is a film that surpasses its reputation as a shotgun blast to the senses. Cannibal Holocaust presents the “found footage” of four documentary filmmakers who experience brutal death at the hands of a savage South American tribe of flesh-eaters. This footage is so intense, so graphic and so unflinching in its realism that the director and producer of Cannibal Holocaust were arrested upon its original release and the film seized. Ruggero Deodato’s notorious 1979 film begins with the expedition of NYU anthropology professor Harold Monroe (Robert Kerman — Eaten Alive, Cannibal Ferox, Spider-Man). Professor Monroe’s search for the missing documentary film crew leads him into the dangerous “Green Inferno,” an untamed Amazon jungle populated by rival primitive tribes and wild animals. In the tribal village of the Yanomamos, he finds the devoured, skeletal remains of the American filmmakers along with the footage shot by the ill-fated crew.

When Professor Monroe screens the documentary footage for a cynical group of New York television network executives, a gruesome and disturbing story unfolds. Led by Alan Yates (Gabriel Yorke), the American film crew ruthlessly exploits “barbaric” tribal customs for the sake of sensationalism. With their cameras rolling, Yates and his crew then proceed to torture, rape, kill and burn their way through the jungle. The bloody tide turns as the natives rise up to take violent revenge on their tormentors.

Widely acknowledged as the uncredited inspiration for The Blair Witch Project, Cannibal Holocaust has been both praised and vilified for its portrait of savagery. Deodato’s nihilistic masterwork critiques the implications of Mondo-style filmmaking, even as it explores the most disturbing extremes of cruelty and exploitation. Not for the weak of stomach, the film’s horrifying power cannot be denied. Grindhouse Releasing 25th Anniversary collector’s edition DVD stands as the definitive release of Cannibal Holocaust.

The deluxe 2-disc set boasts a brand-new, hi-definition digital restoration of the uncensored director’s cut, an exhaustive menu of bonus features and spectacular packaging.

Be forewarned: This is the one that goes ALL THE WAY!

Extra Features Include:

Audio Commentary by director Ruggero Deodato and star Robert Kerman
Selected on-camera commentary
The Making Of Cannibal Holocaust – one hour Italian documentary featuring rare behind-the-scenes footage
Exclusive on-camera interview with Deodato, Kerman and co-star Gabriel Yorke
Original theatrical trailers
Extensive gallery of stills and poster art
The original shooting script
Necrophagia music video
Line notes by legendary horror journalist Chas. Balun”

It is, minus the Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo listing which I am sure will not be the case.

There is. Art by Rick Melton. Reversible sleeve with unclothed version on the back. I'm not a fan of Melton at all.

"- New high definition digital restoration of the uncensored director’s cut"

What is the "uncensored director’s cut"? I thought the director's cut was censored, to deal with the animal cruelty?

There's a animal cruelty free version and a uncensored director's cut offered in the package, just like Grindhouse's dvd edition.

Does this mean that waste of space Eli Roth will explain to us how they used "real live cannibals" in the film ?

Why is the pre-order exclusive to Diabolik? I assume this will be widely available when it is released? There's no mention of it being a limited pressing or anything.

I live in Canada and the local store I buy from has gotten all of Grindhouse's other releases, including the limited American Hippie. So I would just wait and buy it in-store if I could. Just want to be sure this will be distributed normally like Grindhouse's other releases and no chance of an early sellout.

So I guess I should still hold on to my Shameless disc for Deodato's "middle-ground" edit, if I want to have all possible versions of this movie (ie. uncut, animal-cruelty free, and Deodato's New Edit on the Shameless disc).

Excuse me ? If you don't agree, fine, but are you such a fanboy that you have to tell me to screw myself ? I have my opinion and I'll stick to it.

I've met the guy, read his interviews, seen his films and sold him dvds (I sold him the EC Ultrabit release of Cannibal Holocaust for example, so we spoke about this stuff) . Eli Roth is a waste of space.

I hope he does explain how they used real cannibals, 'cause he was very sure of himself in a tv interview that I saw.

Pre ordered from Diabolik. WTH is up with amazon? I realize the price will probably drop but that price is ridiculous.
