I finally was able to get into the beta. The options for character creation seem robust at first but quite limited in each individual category. Does the final game have a lot more to offer there?

Anyone play with a mouse and keyboard?

Only more hair styles that you get access to after completing a quest.

The final beta is now available. Characters created during this one will NOT be wiped afterwards; so, you'll be able to continue where you leave off when the game is officially released. I was disappointed to learn that I won't be able to transfer my character from the PS3 version until next week; so, the beta's not going to do me much good. It's fine though. My time with the PS3 version was rather solitary. But, I have my brothers and their friends joining me for the PS4 version; a party of 6 now. I'm looking forward to playing the game anew with a crew I actually know.

Edit: Actually, I can play with my PS3 character. I was reminded I have to fix all of my hotbars, but I'm happy I get a few extra days of free play.

Do you have to download the beta again from the PS shop or do you simply update the beta that's already installed?

have fun standing around at end game doing nothing to port for instant gratification. Until SE fixes some major issues with this game it is not worth the subscription.

You have to download the whole thing over again, and then after launch, wait for it to download some more updates. Yes, it takes quite a while.

In the US Store, Games->Day 1 Digital; do not try to use the last beta.

Thanks for the info! Glad I left my PS4 on standby this morning. I wish they changed how the client worked so updates downloaded like every other game, but oh well.

I'm happy to say that it is going a lot better this time around. With the first beta, I never could play it because the first time setup wouldn't complete. In this one, I was able to create my character and I was on my way to my first destination when it bombed on me. Hopefully it'll work once I start it back up though.

Man, I couldn't get a Fate Party started for anything. Have they gone out of favor since I was last playing or what? Game has a really nice party finder feature now but I couldn't find one even with that.

What is your class? Dps classes take forever... Like 30+ mins since there are so many of them. Healer usually takes under 5 mins, while Tanks are usually under 2 mins. Least that is how it is on my server.

FFXIV Let's You Switch Between 1080p and 720p

Many console users asked, over the years, for more extensive graphical options in order to better customize their experience, but the ability to select the game’s native resolution has pretty much always been an exclusive of PC gamers. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn changes that, and the beta that opened its floodgates today has an option that lets you switch whenever you like between 1080p and 720p straight from the game’s menu.

Why the heck would anyone want to switch between the two?

Read the article and you'd know lol

Although it's pretty obvious that running it at 720p will offer better frame rate in busy situations.

I saw the option, but didn't bother trying it out as I never ran into a framerate problem. I would like to see what happens during a chaotic Fate, of course, I'd have to actually find people doing Fates for that.

I think with this game I'm more concerned with screen burn-in. Geez, that is a busy screen on either resolution.

1080p looks better in every screen grab from dualshockers. lol

Dunno $12.99 per month ain't that appealing for me. Maybe if it was the only game I'd play.

I think I'll probably have to go through the tutorial again (hopefully it'll let me). I kind of breezed through it since it was very late when I was playing around with it. I don't really know what I'm doing and it wouldn't let me leave the initial city I arrived at so I haven't been able to go exploring yet.

The graphics were better than I expected. Seeing their mouths move but not hearing any voices took a little getting use to though.

Even if I enjoy the beta (although, I'm not sure how much time I'll get to spend with it), I'm not sure I'll get the retail game. I rarely feel like I spend enough time with something to justify paying a monthly fee for it so I wish they were using a F2P model instead.

I haven't played the new beta, but from the first PS4 beta, frame rate drops were pretty notable in the previous beta. It tends to be at it's worst in the lobbies if I remember correctly.

Although I don't think you can completely alleviate frame rate drops by simply lowering the resolution, when there are large groups of people covering a lobby area, not something a resolution drop would fix.
