Here's the thread dedicated to the upcoming BD/DVD release of Studio Ghibli's When Marnie Was There.

This film is theatrically distributed by GKIDS, with the home video release likely to be Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

North America BD release date TBA.

I'm going to see this today in a small local theater. I saw From Up on Poppy Hill in the same theater a few years ago and I'm looking forward to seeing what could be Studio Ghibli's last film on the big screen.

Ghibli isn't just going to go away just because Miyazaki retired. They temporarily halted productions yes but they will definitely be back.

bestbuy.com is showing a release date of October 6th for this now, maybe it's not official but it's something new atleast lol

Well, Song of the Sea was through Universal, and that one doesn't line up with the rest of the GKIDS slips either (I'm assuming it lines up with Kaguya).

Picked up my copy today during lunch from Best Buy. There were about 5 copies left, all with beautiful slips.

Can't wait to watch this one.

I watched it last night. I thought it was a lovely film, both visually and in terms of the plot. As many people have said, if this is the last Ghibli film, at least they're going out on a high note.

I preferred the Japanese dub to the English one, which seemed to be a little over-wrought at times. I also thought there were enough subtle cultural elements in the movie so that the Japanese language just seemed to fit better.

It's good. It's lower budget so the animation quality isn't quite as good as the Miyazaki stuff, but it's still base Ghibli standard of course. A small scale film, feels more like 2-4 episodes out of those old World Masterpiece Theatre anime series that Miyazaki and Takahata worked on way back in the day.

Just received my copy earlier in the mail. I ordered through Target, so of course it didn't come with a slipcover. Disappointing, but I guess I can always buy one at a later date. I'm looking forward to finally watching this tomorrow. Will try to update with my thoughts when I do.

Update: An absolutely beautiful movie, I loved pretty much everything about it. I occasionally get choked up watching things but the part

I recently noticed that the copies with slips were gone too. After looking for about a week I finally found one but it was $34.99 + tax! Ended up paying out of my ass for a copy with a slip.

Oh well, at least it is for a fantastic film so whatevs.
