Well, the filmmakers I've work with said they loved the 3D version of their movie too...
When they were promoting it. Behind the scenes in post production (and even when shooting it) their attitude was VERY different. I have tons of footage of directors, cinematographers, VFX supervisors, etc all looking at camera and saying "3D sucks!"

All I know is that all of the screenings I heard about that George Miller attended when the movie came out were 2D. I think that speaks as loudly as (or louder than) his words promoting the movie.

After all, Bruce Willis said A Good Day to Die Hard turned out well and "satisfies on a lot of the “Die Hard” big ticket items." Let's take what filmmakers say when they're selling a movie with a giant, iceberg sized grain of salt.

I'm guessing a rerelease will ultimately be decided on how popular MM: FR might be on home video.
