Hi all,

Saw some of this on you tube and though I enjoy a baaaaad film as much as the next one, and this did have its share of unintentional laughs that would have made Ed Wood proud, I might consider it when the price drops to about five bucks and free shipping.

Let me know how the 3D is for I'm hoping it met the high production values as with the fight with the dead shark.

The 3D is the reason to get this one. I hope you weren't expecting Shakespeare in a gorilla suit.

Watched it recently and it was HORRIBLE!
But I will say I was not bored by it at all. It was like the car wreck you can't look away from. Laughed a lot when I shouldn't have. It was entertaining. But alas, it won't be added to my collection.

A Facebook friend of mine believes A*P*E comes across as an elaborate practical joke played on the audience. I like that reading of it. I myself do find it a very entertaining film, taken in the right frame of mind.

Can you believe it? I have proudly pre-ordered my customary two copies!

Yeah, I agree that it's good to go into a film like APE with low expectations for the movie, though I expect great 3D since this was made within the classic era of 3D films, where strong 3D was the goal. This movie does look entertaining and I can imagine when they made it, they knew it wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, but was a fun giant monster movie with budget effects.

Thanks for the link Revgen.
The screen pics look clear and High definition, very good. That splice line on the right side camera file looks like it would be a challenge to correct and align. Great to hear Bob and Greg were able to get the 3D aligned for great 3D in APE.

Thanks for the info. This looks like it'll be fun. I imagine that if 3-D Film Archives and Kino Lorber are supporting this release, it'll have strong 3D as expected. Less than a month away for Ape 3D.

The 3-D is excellent, especially after the alignment work of Greg Kintz.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one, at the very least there's no way it's as boring as The Stewardesses.

Thanks, I'll add it to my list of locked titles.

I haven't ranted about region locking for a while so I think it's fair to restate my view that any 3D title that gets a locked release in one region only is like a slap in the face for 3D fans in the other region.

Region locking, lack of PAL or NTSC support, forced subtitles - we have all this wonderful technology that's ending up being crippled by greedy men. It's a stupid world.

Rant over.

13th Man, as always, I respect your position. But I think the issue here may be that Jack H. Harris does not control the rights to this film worldwide. He seems the sort who would have long ago sold off rights territory by territory to recoup negative costs, taking his actual profits strictly from box office receipts in North America.

Also, I must voice a respectful quibble: Assuming for the sake of discussion that Mr. Harris does in fact control worldwide rights in A*P*E, and assuming there is no compelling legal reason to release the film locked for Region A, then surely he qualifies as miserly, not greedy. A greedy man would eagerly want your money, along with as many other European and Asian ducats as he could lay hands on. But, as I say, I don't think Mr. Harris (or the folks at Kino Lorber) would leave international earnings uncollected unless they were compelled to do so by ownership rights and hard legal realities.

Spot-on, Mike. The complaints about region-locking do not take into consideration licensing restrictions.

Does anyone really feel that Kino does not want to maximize profits on such a release?

I don't think 13th man's post actually designates Kino to be the ones that are greedy. That said, I also think he has mentioned having a region A playstation, which makes his objection curious since he can obviously watch them all.

Nothing curious about it. I know exactly where he's coming from just thinking about my own experiences with my non-region A titles. Can't play the discs in my bedroom on the components not adaptable to region change, and i can't loan the discs to my relatives. Region coding sucks! Nothing personal.
