Ha i praised so much for the amazing depth but didn't list that. I agree how could i forget that because that was really a great shot down to the Abyss and clamouring to the seat because it felt so close because it was really like looking into a Window of another World. Man i can't wait to own this on 3D Blu-Ray in april/May

Agreed. His viewing problems overwhelm his 3D enjoyment.
FYI: Bill Hunt viewed Rogue One in RealD 3D this time via Barco Laser projection.

If you buy them, you own these Star Wars special 3D glasses and can leave the theater with them.
The recycle booths at many theaters are voluntary, unless it's IMax special glasses, those I know they want back. They only work with Imax screens anyway, so I don't want the Imax 3D glasses. I brought in Real D 3D glasses to an Imax 3D show just to see what happened, and they didn't work. Just saw double image as if I didn't have glasses on. Only the Imax 3D glasses worked for Imax 3D.

Over here we may keep the Imax glasses, when they hand them out you always get new ones still shrink wrapped. That's a good thing cause before that you had to give them back. I asked an employee if they cleaned them between showings and he said yes, but everytime I checked the glasses they were dirty as hell. Hence why I always took some desinfecting spray with me when going to see 3D Imax.

That's cool. I agree, we should be able to keep them if we want. Then again, I have so many Real D 3D glasses in a box that I only keep the special edition ones now.

You may have mentioned it, but how did you like the 3D of Rogue One?
I felt it starts off 3/5ths of the movie, with low medium 3D layers, but then amps up to high medium to strong 3D in the final 2/5ths of the movie, redeeming itself for the 3D.

I thought the 3D was pretty good overal but there were a couple of shots/scenes were the 3D was really great. From what I remember there were a couple of instances were the depth was amazing and also during the final battle there were some really 3D scenes!

Cool. Yeah, the ending scenes look great in 3D. So much going on screen on ground and in outer space.

I found this film did not work for me. Darth Vaders scene where he talks felt like a parody. The 3D was good but not great. Similar to the directors last film where it is clear no thought was given to 3D by the director.

It is a shame it gets stronger later on as I wasn't all that interested by the final act and thus didn't appreciate the stronger depth there.

For those that might start believing all the negative comments on the 3D - I just saw this yesterday and I thought the 3D was quite strong and well-done overall. I wish there had been a few "gimmick shots' for fun, but this really isn't that kind of film anyways. There's lots of quite strong depth so I don't know what people are complaining about.

I just hope they don't pull a TFA on us and give separate release dates. I'm really looking forward to watching this again at home.

Hey Suntory, haven't heard from you on the 3D forums in awhile, good to see you post again.

For VII, I was watching that again and a lot of the framing of the character shots keeps their heads in view, and there are plenty of "lucky accidents" where the 3D shots look well composed with foreground, mid and background layers in mostly strong 3D.

For Rogue One, for awhile there, the 3D is decent, but not very inspiring as with Stereo D's VII 3D, till Vader appears and then the 3D amped up from that point forward. They're also converting VIII, so we'll see how that goes.

Glad you liked it. The final 3/5's of the film, great 3D.

I took a much needed and deliberate break from films for a few months there and only watched the very occasional film. I just felt I needed some time away from the medium to make watching films feel special again if that makes any sense.

I do find that if i'm enjoying a film that is in 3d I will be far more aware and able to remember the depth, and when less interested though I am paying attention the 3d just kind of goes away. I loved the directors first film and thought Godzilla was good, but maybe my very meandering feelings on this film is why I didn't really notice the depth to much in the final act.

I do wonder how much the reshoots changed the film. In the teaser for example we see the main villain with the white cap walking through water towards a destroyed ATAT and we also see the heroin along with the Cassian running towards an ATAT as they fire at the group, along with many other shoots such as the heroing seemingly in the base at the end but not in the black trooper armour running away etc. All of this to me suggests the final act was originally a very different film.

Then again this was also the first 3d film I had seen in cinemas since TFA, so I could also be comparing it unfairly to the 3d I get at home which is far better in quality (as is the 2d). Still the issue for me was primarily the film. I'm sure i'll see it again some time in the future and hope my opinion changes but I found the entirety of it rather boring.

Yes, certain shots were cut and will likely end up in the extras, that's true.
I think they had to work on the flow and motivations, as well as the logic of how the story played out probably.

Hopefully you'll find more movies to enjoy in 2017. Thanks for the reply.

The film had extensive reshoots, and it sounds like the film with a different director was significantly changed (I believe Tony Gilroy directed the reshoots and John Gilroy was an editor who has worked with Tony frequently was brought in to reedit the film, after Gareth and the original editor Jabez who edited previous Garreth films where replaced in the production on some level).

That is certainly what seemed to have happened, meaning I doubt disney will release that footage as either it is so bad they don't want people to know they spent so much money creating it before reshooting it. Or it gives people the impression that the film was going to be far better before it was massively changed by a new team who was brought in. Neither is something that benefits disney and the blu-ray releases they have done have not gone above and beyond for years now.

What i'm saying is sadly I doubt it will happen. :/

I would say it is more a large change to the story, to make it hit close to that two hour mark and be easily digestible entertainment for the masses. They clearly was bubbling underneath what we got the desire to show what it was like for the average person living under the control of the empire. A more ground roots film if you will, which is what I would expect from a director like Garreth.

I watched it last night and thought that both the film itself and the 3D were sadly quite forgettable. I just don't think that Gareth Edwards's shot selection naturally lends itself to 3D (a lot of character close ups).

I noticed in the credits that Yoichiro Aoki (Titanic, Godzilla, Jurassic World) was the Stereographer.
