And people in the UK have been saying "why does it have to be Region A locked?!?!" (rather than region free) about American blu-rays for years.

Feel better?

I don't think that is official yet. You have to remember that Zavvi is a very lazy UK based retailer. They're main customer base is region B. So, they don't bother doing any further research on the media releases knowing that by listing region B they are 100% correct for their customers. Since the disc is being released for the UK market, it will definitely play in region B players... even though it could also be region A & C as well.

When it comes to Zavvi, until someone gets a copy of a Zavvi Blu-ray in their hands and checks for any region locking, you can't freak out about it.

Because it's an eOne movie in UK, and eOne is a local distributor in UK (that's why it feature exclusive artwork, while all EU editions are distributed by Sony), so the disc is, you know, produced for the local UK market. The same happens for all local distributors (Metropolitan in France, Concorde Video in Germany, 01/Rai Movie in Italy, etc.)

Yes, correct, but I think the bigger question is: Why can't we all (the studios and distributors) just get along and make everything region-free--especially given the ease of purchasing movies from any country shipped to any country? Region coding feels like a very outdated system that only just barely does some of what it's meant to do.

Pretty much my thought process on it. Just because it's a UK release shouldn't be a decent excuse for if it does end up being Region B locked. Just my opinion.

I keep hearing a lot about the US transfer being botched so I wonder is this will be the same given it is not distributed by Sony in the UK. My guess is it uses the same master but still wonder if anyone knows for sure.

Okay...?

I don't know why you're taking offense to what I said lol I didn't blame the UK or you specifically for the Region locking, and if I could make all US releases region free I would, just for you.

Geez.

The solution is to go on ebay and spend £50.

Buy yourself a cinavia and region free machine. All problems solved. Then buy a decent AV Receiver for your surround sound.

Was that a dig at my receiver or something?

Why thank you!

I'm not taking offense. I'm just pointing out that there are plenty of people with problems vice-versa. And yeah you could just buy a region-free player!
