Default Use with TV that does not have DV

I currently have a Samsung 4K SUHD that has HDR 10 only. Using a K8500 BD, but it has some issues with playback, and picture quality. Is it worth upgrading to the LG? I am considering upgrading to a TV that will handle DV later this year. What will DV content output to my current TV? HDR 10?

Thanks!

You will get the HDR10 layer of the DV HDR data.

If the Sony is getting DV, then I would snag that one instead, if you cannot spring for the Oppo.

Thanks! Why the Sony?

One thing that concerns me about the LG is that other posters, above, state that it will ship with no apps. I have been using the K8500 for NetFlix, YouTube, and VUDU, because I get better sound to the receiver than the TV outputs from the built-in Smart Hub. TV limited to DDS.

Update on LG's UP970 streaming apps. It is true that LG's UP970 may not ship with the streaming apps, but they have promised me the Smart apps will be added by the end of April if not sooner.

Also the exact apps to be included is not finalized, but the first suite of apps will be Netflix and YouTube. This player will have HDR10 HDR, Dolby Vision HDR and HLG HDR.

If the Sony gets DV, then it also plays SA-CD and DVD-Audio ultra-high res music discs like the Oppo 203. A cheaper alternative universal player.

And hopefully their own Sony movie app where I can finally watch my Sony UHD UV movies without a Sony tv

The player is now listed on BestBuy.com, but the order button is grayed out (simply says "Coming Soon").

I've been checking Frys and Best Buy to see if this actually goes in stock anywhere. I keep going back and forth on preordering it for
Frys, but it seems like the best idea for me would be to wait for reviews. I'm hoping there is a little more "synergy" (couldn't think of a better word) between my LG OLED and the LG UHD player. Currently it seems like there is a constant back and forth between my tv and my Samsung UHD for the best settings.

I'm hoping if they do update the apps they will add more.

Since the LG G6 won't allow VUDU Dolby Vision titles & Dolby Atmos streamed by anything right now including their own apps on their flagship TV I was hoping their flagship UHD player would do it.

It's been frustrating owning the TV for almost a year & the VUDU Dolby Vision 4K titles I've purchased I can't even stream with Dolby Digital Plus & Dolby Vision yet on anything.

Very frustrating! Please add the App & the capabilities to your UHD player. I'm at least hoping Netflix will have HDR & Dolby Digital plus on the titles that offer it since the LG G6 App doesn't allow it.

Also hoping Amazon App will be added with HDR or Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos or Dolby Digital sound.

This is still the player I'm looking at, to be my first UHD player.
Specs and price look great and I'm really hoping that the combination with my LG OLED will be great.
I hope that Robert Zohn can tell us more once they have arrived. And any links to reviews would be much appreciated.

Any word yet? I think I am in this allotment if I pre ordered early enough.

Correct, you ^^ are on the top of our UP970 priority list. Still no tracking, but I'm still cautiously optimistic for delivery next week.

riptor3076, thanks for the Best Buy update.

Sorry to report back that LG has delayed the UP970 launch, but our 1st large allocation is scheduled for the week of March 27th. Hope this holds true as we have taken a lot of pre-orders.
