I watch DVDs(some older TV series that never made it to Blu-ray) through my Sony x700 UHD player. It's DVD that's upscaled to 4k, it only gets so good .... Doesn't look horrible like standard definition from 25 years ago but it doesn't look anywhere near HD , or UHD ofcourse.
I'm about to buy a TV and it seems mostly 4K TV's are made now. Believe it or not my current TV is a 26" RCA Tube TV. I still watch regular DVD's on a DVD player.

I really like the Sony X900F and am also looking to get the Sony x700UHD player. I'm hoping my DVD's will look OK. I know DVD's look good on a High-Definition(HD) TV but now everything seems to be 4K.

You be blown away then. THE X700 AND 900F are a great combo, absolutely love mine.

It won't do it justice but I could post a picture of DVD, BluRay and UHD from the X700/900F if you'd like.

If you don't mind posting the pictures of DVD, Blu-Ray and UHD I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

I have a Sony 75" 940D and was thinking of changing it for a 85" 900F. Does anyonn think there would be a significant loss of PQ? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I believe you would love the 85" X900F.

Very nice price drops on the X900F series and the 77" A1E OLED TVs from Sony.

Keep in mind the limitations of my camera (pixil XL phone) and your monitor when viewing these pictures. These do no justice for real life viewing. It's not even close.

(I do not have one of anything in DVD/Blu-ray/UHD, so I split it comparing DVD to Blu-ray , and BluRay to UHD.)

First up is Stargate Atlantis S5 E1 DVD

SGA S5 E1 Blu-ray

John Wick Blu-ray

John Wick UHD

They don't look that bad! At least the DVD image doesn't look bad and I don't see any bad artifacts.

Just keep in mind , it looks 100 times better in person. Especially the UHD, then factor in HDR/Dolby Vision. It's fanfreakintastic.

Where do you do the up-scaling for DVD's? In the X700 or the 900F?

I have upscaling turned on at the X700, and the TV. I imagine the player get the brunt of the processing being that it's first in the chain.

Sony's 2018 X900F series 49", 55", 65" 75" and 85" are excellent choices in each size class.

TJN reviewed and liked the 65" at S&V:

I'd like the 75", but will see how the price is on Black Friday. I may get the 65".

I have the exact same gear. I've being playing around with it for a month now. I recently turned off the player upscaling and let the TV do all the work. I think it looks better but I am not 100 percent sure. I'm still trying out various discs.

I tried this because I'm not sure upscaling works in a "chain". If i'm right, I thought the TV's Procrssing power would be superior to the player's.

I'd love to know if anyone has tried this as well.

Cheers ! D

I agree. One or the other, not both.
