You really need to get your facts checked. It's not owned by Disney, not in North America anyway, otherwise I would have been able to redeem my code in Movies Anywhere and I can't, I can't even buy it there.

Disney doesn't own anything in the US regarding Titanic, only internationally Disney has control over the movie.
But in the end James Cameron decides what happens with the movie and if he wants it released Paramount and Disney will release it on 4K disc.....it's just that simple.

I also don't think Paramount or even Disney for that matter will object...unless they don't want money anymore.

I agree......nor Paramount nor Disney would miss that opportunity to make cash on a 4K disc.

What relevance is this on a Titanic thread?

Just rewatched this last night. Epic movie but unless it's rereleased as 'Titanic Remastered 4k' with updated cgi (specifically in a few shots the cgi people walking on deck), then I think the best version will be the 3d Bluray watched in 2d (due to its full screen uncropped aspect ratio), the 1080 3d blu ray is clear enough to be a great watch, but 4k would only make clearer the 90s cgi that is best not to see too clearly.

James Cameron did update the cgi of Terminator 2 so it's possible... 'Titanic remastered 4k' would be epic, but for now 3d blu ray watched in 2d is the best release.

True Lies and The Abyss aren't even on Blu-Ray yet. I doubt Titanic will make it to 4K anytime soon. At least a very good copy is on Blu-Ray which I'll be buying soon. It could be a few years before it's released on 4K.

I think Digital Bits said Cameron was working on 4K releases of his stuff, but those are for movies under the 20th Century Fox banner. Paramount has been so and so with releases so I don't see this far behind and I'd love for them to release Chinatown on 4k as well.

Still Fox technically, Paramount is domestic only, and at the time Titanic was doing the BD, Fox was in charge of the HD mastering.

I saw it in 4k 2D and true dual eye 4k in 3D too in theaters and it looked amazing in 4k. The only thing is the HDR made something feel a little more fake somehow in some of the outside of the ship, dark sinking scenes, but otherwise man did it look AMAZING!

Gawd I really hope this comes out soon. Been dying to watch this on 4K HDR. Plus I hope Cameron opens up the frame like he did for 3D

I bought the Blu-Ray and it looks and sounds amazing. I have 4K discs and know what they are capable of. The quality of the image and sound on the Titanic Blu-Ray almost doesn't need an upgrade. I can't imagine it looking much better in 4K.

full screen uncropped aspect ratio? uhm... I would never watching this movie in 16:9 aka 1,85:1 on my TV. it would be feeling like watching a TV movie

If Titanic wants to be released on 4K Blu-ray, Paramount will have the American and Canadian home media release, and then 20th Century Studios (through Disney) will handle the release in the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Scandinavia.

With all the vitriol that Jackson got for changing things in the 4K of LotR, I'm surprised that no one complained about Cameron changing things here.
