Are these Mamma Mia movies worth a blind buy? Am thinking of buying them from Gruv using their 2 for $22 deal.

I enjoyed them, but I can see how they're not for everybody. I'm fine with people singing their emotions or disputes, but I can't handle when musicals sing their actual dialogue, which thankfully this didn't.

First was better than the 2nd, but it's still watchable for Lily James.

Geez, the Mexico plant is really putting my 4K player to the test. I got this from Gruv as part of their 2 for $22 sale and my copy had a couple of visible scratches. I just finished watching the movie and thankfully, it played flawlessly. I’m surprised I had no issues given how sensitive UHD players are to scratches.

By the way, the picture quality on this disc is beautiful looking! Very colorful!!

It’s freaking crazy. Had that happen a few times. Gruv is pretty good about replacements but they require you to send it back first which can be problematic if you get a new set in worse condition than the first.

I had a disc skip that looked fine so I requested a replacement and that disc was in worse shape with scratches BUT it did not skip. You never know how a scratch will affect playback which is why I do not let them go ignored.

The funny thing is, it's almost ALWAYS the 4K disc with scratches. The regular BD disc usually is fine, but the 4K disc is the one that is scratched up. I don't get it. If the regular BD was scratched, I honestly wouldn't care as I have no intention of ever watching it.

But yeah, I had to exchange a BD once from GRUV before and that disc didn't have scratches. But it skipped. It took almost a month for them to replace it because they took forever to respond to my email, and I had to ship the BD first before they mailed a replacement. When I finally got a replacement, the new disc had MORE scratches but ironically, did not skip.

I think a lot of it has to do with the angle & depth of the scratch. Sometimes a scratch can look really visible, but it's not that deep and not an angle that will trip up the player. That's my guess.

Has anyone bought this and tried playing the DVD on a region B player? (I personally have a Panasonic UB-450 if that makes a difference to the answer)

You will need to get your terminology right to get right answers because your question only allows guesses which can be wrong.

"DVD" has zone coding stated in numbers 0-5 I think, not letters like per your question.

BD (blurays) has zone coding stated in letters A, B, C.

4K UHD discs are meant to be region free although there are some rare exceptions.

If you were asking about the bluray, I have NOT tested it myself but according to "someone" on this site the US disc is region free so it should play in any bluray player.

A DVD is a completely different matter and I couldn't tell whether it is region locked or not.

I meant the DVD. Didn’t realise it used to be even more complicated back then. So the question is ‘has anyone successfully played the DVD in a Region 2 player?’

Which of course in most cases will be the same device as their region B blu-ray player

I had a look at the back on Amazon US and it is marked region 1, on occasions they are still region free but that happens a lot less often than with blurays marked A. If you are thinking in buying I would say the chances are against you.

By the way, that is the correct question. For your info I am in Australia region B for BD and 4 for DVD.
In short, more often than not, if I buy a dual edition from the UK. On a standard player I can play the Bluray but the DVD won't play, Similar inconsistencies happen with many other countries in different combinations.

This will serve as a bump up, I hope someone can answer your question.
