This is going to be the most difficult hard pass for me. Absolutely love this movie but I have to draw the line somewhere. This is a no-brainer eventual 4k uhd release in the very near future. With the 4k uhd of The Thing coming later in the year AAWIL is just around the corner.

I have zero need for posters and lobby cards...have to wonder if a non-Limited Edition will come down the pipeline that excludes them (and the box/booklet) while retaining everything else.

I had my finger hovering over the mouse to hit the confirm order button yesterday but couldn't do it. I am over box sets with trinkets. A nice booklet would be nice but other that I will pass. Plus I haveca feeling a UHD is on the way.

I think I'll probably get this and then hang my head in shame when the UHD gets released and buy that as well.

Yeah 4k is great in all, but Universal sure as hell won't include the original mono and it took 3 releases to get it (by a boutique label) and it'll include EVERYTHING with extras and the cover doesn't look like a kindergarten exercise in Photoshop which seems to be the norm with the major studios on catalog titles (ex. Batman 4ks). I'm down.

I'm torn between **** the swag I can wait and there hasn't been a proper release of this awesome movie since like 1997.

Same. I'm getting this for the original mono audio. I skipped the last anniversary edition precisely because of its exclusion. Sick of audio tracks that have been messed with.

Same here. I can easily live without the swag (though I am a bit fond of booklets), but the original mono makes this an easy choice for me.

Those conflicted about a possible future UHD from the studio have a valid argument but, personally, I will always prefer the boutique label version over a potentially barebones - and still problematic - edition from a major studio in a higher format. If it's a movie I love I can certainly still purchase the UHD and make a homemade combo pack - a perfectly viable solution, but in some cases, like Waterworld, purchasing that UHD edition of the theatrical cut is like backtracking. I will purchase The Thing even though I'm 100% satisfied with the Arrow release. It'll be a case by case thing (no pun intended)>

If it's a favourite, then there's no harm in owning both. I'll be getting the 4K Werewolf too.

Because Arrow's website listed this release as Region B, I emailed to clarify. The response I received this morning stated that both the UK and US/CA releases are encoded as A and B so they will identical discs. This probably to the shock of no one, but I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered from Arrow.

Did I miss an announcement about a UHD of The Thing?? Or is it just a rumor?

It's a rumor but it was from a few sources. Chances are good but nothing definitive, unfortunately.

It hasn't been announced yet officially. Earlier in the year, a Russian insider had posted a small list of titles that Universal plan to release on UHD in 2019. The source seems creditable as, out of the 18 titles they had leaked, most of them have came out or are confirmed coming.

The titles for those curious:
[Show spoiler]1. Backdraft
2. Field of Dreams (30th Anniversary)
3. Casino
4. American Gangster
5. The Hulk
6. Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life
7. The Scorpion King
8. Waterworld
9. The Thing (1982)
10. Hellboy II
11. Fast & Furious (4)
12. Fast Five
13. Shaun of the Dead (15th Anniversary)
14. 47 Ronin
15. World’s End
16. Miami Vice
17. Wanted
18. Hot Fuzz
