I feel like if you have a story that's already near as "perfect" as you could have, then only minor tweaks are needed and the visuals being brought up to modern standards would bring it to the widest and newest audience.

Don't fix what isn't broke is what comes to mind.

Neat. Curious who's voicing Snake. And what style of gameplay they're going for.

Looks good so far. If Kris Zimmerman is back as VA director, then Hayter and the original cast would've likely returned, imo.

That, alongside Peace Walker and Revengence...and Metal Gear Online, hopefully.

I can't really recall the MGS HD collection I completed and how I felt about that remake at the time but I feel like it was a noticeable update to the PS2/Vita counterparts..

Hoping for the same leap from that starting point especially for MGS1

No Longer Rumor now confirmed by Konami

MGS3 Remake titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — styled as Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater.

The long-rumored Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake is set to be revealed at the PlayStation Showcase on Wednesday, and despite recent murmurs, the game won’t be exclusive to Sony formats.

Konami is giving the Metal Gear Solid franchise — the stealth-action series it hasn’t touched in a meaningful way since 2018’s Metal Gear Survive — a fresh update. The company is developing a remastered version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The new version is called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — styled as Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater.

The remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 will feature “the original voice characters, rich storyline and expansive features of combat survival in harsh environments evolved with unprecedented graphics and immersive sound,” Konami said in a news release.

“We are working hard for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design,” the development team said, “while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.”

Here’s an early look at Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Message From Development Team
We thank you and sincerely appreciate your continuous support.

Currently, the development team are working together to create an environment where fans can experience and enjoy the METAL GEAR series on the latest platforms.

We are remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most beloved instalments of the METAL GEAR series, revealing the origin story of Snake, as METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER. We are working hard for METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.

Simultaneously, we will deliver the METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION series, the most complete compilation that celebrates the 35th anniversary of the series. The METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION allows fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms.

We hope you will enjoy the METAL GEAR series on the latest platforms.

Development team

Based on the above quote and "Master Collection" in the title, it's not a stretch to think it will include every significant release of the listed games, right? Potential Vol. 1 lineup:
  1. Metal Gear Solid
    • Metal Gear Solid: Integral
    • Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
    • Metal Gear Solid (PC)
    • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GCN)
  2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
    • Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (Xbox)
    • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - HD Edition (PS3)
  3. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
    • Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
    • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - HD Edition (PS3)
    • Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D (3DS)
    • Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater – The Naked Sample (3DS)
3DS versions obviously won't happen, or maybe exclusive to NSO. Vol. 2 could be all the games that originated on portables (including PW), Vol. 3 could be MGS 4, Rising, and V. Kinda hope they don't make more than two volumes, or release the main collection and add the alternates as DLC.

PSN description doesn't specify which version of MGS1 it is, but says MGS2/3 are based on the PS3/360 ports. It also confirms VR Missions and the MSX games will also be included. I assume MGS1 is probably an emulation of the PS1 version, but it could be a native port based on the PC version.

Thanks for the additional details, I hadn’t checked the store listing. Since it says MGS will include VR Missions/Special Missions, I expect that’s Integral.

I wonder how they’ll handle the Codec frequency, or Psycho Mantis’ abilities to
[Show spoiler]read or game saves/play history or interfere with the player 1 controller in MGS. I guess this isn’t a spoiler since it’s 25 years old
.

Reminder that these remakes are a symptom of developers being afraid to make anything that doesn't check the modern AAA boxes, unless it has already proven itself financially and seeded a fanbase that can be targeted. Games are too expensive to make. No developer would make an original game as expansive, full of secrets and unique from everything else currently on the market as MGS3, including Konami.

I expect a ton of content (even if it's only radio conversations and secrets) to be cut and, just like in the RE4 remake, the cinematography and the way lines are said to be worse again. They will say things differently and angle the camera some place else in an attempt to be different, even though it was right the first time. Fixed cameras may be dropped and crouch will be forced. Will play much more like modern games.

Problem with rendering so much detail is that the geometry underneath and the level design are still from the PS2 era. The original's geometry and detail mesh better. It's like those ugly Unreal Engine Ocarina of Time recreations.

Based on the pics it looks like the original level design is still largely intact, which is good.

Great to see MGS back in some form aswell as Konami doing something at last.

Remastering an established game from the series stops them from trying to make a new one without Kojima so I'm all for this.

I already have the PS2 original, PS2 subsistence, PS3 HD collection & PSVITA versions of the MGS3 so I'm all game for what this one has to offer. Even if there's issues they can't take the original masterpiece away from me.

Shame the new Master Collection vol.1 looks to be just the PS1 MGS and the HD versions of MGS2 & 3 ported to PS5, no sign of Twin Snakes (even though that game is not a patch on the original). Still nice for those that might have missed out till now I guess.

I'd probably still re-buy them again if a physical edition came out.

I think Nintendo might have the exclusive rights to Twin Snakes, which is why it's never been ported to anything else. Same with Sony and MGS4
