Found a brand new 4K copy in a record store today. The packaging is great, Synapse is copying Vinegar Syndrome with a thick matte slipcase inside of a sturdy cardboard case, all with different artwork.

I've been waiting years to see this movie after first seeing a trailer for it on a blu ray compilation. It's always either sold out or over $100 and I'm glad to finally get a copy.

Overall, it did not disappoint. I loved that it was a paranoid 70s political thriller combined with a slasher with body horror elements. I swear the lead actor actually took acid for the role. His performance is ****ing bonkers and hilarious. I feel like a lot of people will never take this movie seriously because of him but I loved how over the top he was.

My only criticisms are the movie plays it safe in moments where it could really do something shocking. The ending is also lackluster and abrupt.

The 4K is my first experience watching this so I have no idea how improved this restoration is but it was a nice, natural looking film transfer that didn't look overly tampered with. The color and film stock looked like a 70s movie and they didn't make an attempt to modernize it. I think I would have been fine with an older 1080p master though, the cinematography isn't particularly stunning.

I got my copy yesterday and the 4K disc doesn’t have chapter breaks.

The Blu-ray copy does, but the UHD doesn’t.

Did I get a bad disc or is it like this for everybody?
