My wife and I just about hold the Z/A/Z stuff up as sacred, in terms of comedy. I know exactly what you mean. It was cleverly dumb, if that makes sense. Dumbly brilliant, if you'd prefer.

The timing and set-ups have to be pinpoint to make this one work.

I won't lie, I was ready to hate what I saw and I didn't. I'm very glad they're paying tribute to the original characters and while I would prefer something else, if this has to exist, then it doesn't look as bad as it could have been. But, I will reserve final judgment for the full trailer and obviously, the film itself.

I get what you're saying, but for better or worse, I see it as the need to make the character different as opposed to some carbon copy of the Nielsen character. Neeson is an action star and if they're going to do it this way, I hope they joke about that aspect of Neeson's career, too.

It already doesn't make sense that they're presumably gunning for a "new" franchise with a (soon-to-be) 73 (!)-year-old lead actor. Hell, Nielsen himself was only 62 in 1988, which means Neeson is five years older than Nielsen was when he made the third film in 1994.

If they throw SOME "Liam" in there, I'd expect that. However, I hope the balance is more towards the comedy than an entire movie of Taken spoofs. I mean, they DID throw football references in the original film(s) for OJ.

But he's clearly a klutz and then falls out a window. And Nielsen just naturally does not have a badass persona like Neeson.

It made me laugh and I don’t care why or whether it was “faithful” or “true” to some imagined comedic canon. I laughed… I laughed hard… I am so pumped for this.
