IMDb page states that the entire film is in 2.39:1 but some scenes opened up to 1.90 for IMAX.

Don't get me wrong, there was one moment that almost made me get up and walk out (like in that if affected me, not that I disapproved), but I wasn't drawn with too high of tension at any time.

Some main things I thought were just a bit off:

- We entered the final act and I hadn't realized it (it still felt middle act-ish).
- I felt it promised something more sinister than it ever delivered.
- The same actor used in Smile played a supernatural entity, and that threw me off (EDIT: Actually upon researching I can't confirm this, but he looked exactly like it and it was jarring)
- Judy is recast once again. It's been hard for me to connect with her when she's been portrayed by three different actresses.
- The Smurl's take a large backseat in this film after being front-loaded.

With that last note, this movie was 135 minutes long and it felt it because they want everyone to have their story with haunting scenes sprinkled in, and it was too much characterization with too little deliverance. When you look at the movie in its rearview and explain plot details to somebody, there is very little to say that went on as a whole in terms of events. That doesn't bode well for a 2+ hour horror film. I would've began by completely scrapping the opening, or somehow editing it into flashback form (and there was a perfect time to do it).

The ageless Patrick Wilson was great as well as Vera Farmiga. I see this as their final chapter, but that doesn't mean this universe can't live on. It seems horror is going another direction right now though, so this might be the last of its kind for a while.
Nailed it. I agree with every word of this.

I hope one day someone makes a full on Amityville movie that covers everything from the haunting to the media circus to the warrens, etc.

And man there are so many cool and scary things in the Smurl haunting that they don't even touch. This one got way less attention than the other three cases. Bummed.
Yeah. This is another example of a movie trying to tell three or four different stories and ends up not telling any of them that well.

Just got back

Just going to do a pros and cons as my head still all over place

[Show spoiler]Judy is very likeable, Mia did a great job, so did Ben Hardy, who knew Ian Beale’s son would go this far!

[Show spoiler]Lorraine and Ed are at their lovable best here, they are the heart and souls of this and the series at large

[Show spoiler]Several well designed scares, especially the wedding dress scene

[Show spoiler]The Smurl family were very likeable but didn’t get enough attention second half

[Show spoiler]The huge threat promised was never really shown, making me think it will be back in future stories

The cinematography was ace, really well shot

The yard scene with the
[Show spoiler]table tennis contest was great, as was the proposal and reaction from parents

The whole
[Show spoiler]battle to get the mirror out of the house was thrilling and well done
, but again, no major reveal in terms of the demon.

The post credits scene? What it means for the future? Discuss behind spoilers please

I had a good time overall, it was more emotional than I imagined, and I must admit, I warmed to the daughter and fiancé very quickly. It doesn’t take a genius to see where they are going with the spin off.

Placement

The Conjuring⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Conjuring 2⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Last Rites⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
The Devil Made Me Do It⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall, it ranks 4th behind Annabelle Creation, which I rate as ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh, and my cinema was packed out, great to see.

For that guy asking about trailers, mine were Smashing Machine,
The Strangers: Chapter 2 and I caught the end of Dicaprio, but can’t remember what the film trailer was.
