I’m very curious to see who picks up the license for this in the UK and Australia. Arrow, Second Sight or Umbrella versions might prove to be more appealing for what was, for me at least, a hugely influential film. The whole ancient inner primal self and unlocking gateways via psychedelics (all the rage these days with ayahuasca rituals et al) along with floatation tanks and other sensory deprivation techniques was something I did actually try a few times. I’ve been waiting patiently for this. I can wait a little longer for the right edition, or at least the right one for me.
I think that someone chose that cover in an altered state.

My problem with the cover is that it looks nothing like William Hurt.

This one's aching for the original poster art so bad.

Even before I knew the film was directed by Ken Russell, who was already a favourite of mine, I saw the poster in a full-page ad in a National Lampoon magazine, and immediately thought "I don't know what that is, but I'm seeing it".
Don't think that new Criterion artwork would have had the same response.

There are so many Criterion's covers where I would have preferred the original poster art....including this one.

It's an ugly cover. What is with the art departments at all these studios lately? Half of the covers look like AI-generated shit. I do love the film and will eventually pick this up, but it would have been day one if the artwork wasn't so unattractive and disappointing. It just doesn't either represent the film well or make it look attractive.

Looking forward to seeing this in 4 K. I last watched the Blu-Ray a couple of months back and was surprised how well this held up.

I dunno man, it's pretty obvious they chose the colors and the whole mystical life and death thing there, which in fact does connect to the film pretty well. If somebody was gonna do something for art, I don't see how this is bad at all.

A pretty modern and decent cover if you ask me. Not saying we should not have poster art. We should. But that's how it goes I guess.

This poster art for this happens to be somewhat iconic, and it's a shame Criterion doesn't want to do a double-sided type of thing or something else. But I enjoy this more than some of their other stuff I think.
