I'm not really sure I'd agree its darker though, if anything I tend to think its a bit lighter than Raiders in tone were the Ark does I think have a more sinister menace to it and the Nazi's as bad guys obviously more menace as well.

Rewatching the UHD's I would say Raiders is still just ahead for me but Temple of Doom really isn't far behind at all. It is amazing just how dense the film is, even now I'm picking up on little things I haven't noticed before like Shorty imitating Indy resting his chin on his hands whilst listening to the village elders.

I do tend to think Last Crusade feels like a bit of a different tone, in still has some over the top elements to it but it does also I think feel more grounded in reality compared to the previous two's exoticism and constant sense of fun. Not a bad thing I spose, Speilberg looking instead to focus on a father/son story more and Connery does work so well, indeed so does Denholm Elliot. I'd definitely take that over trying to stick to the same formula as the first two but not doing it as well.

Last Crusade for Sean Connery. If it wasn’t for him I’d say Raiders.

Raiders.

It's my favorite blockbuster of all time and it's perfect. 10/10.

Last Crusade is almost same tier, but Harrison Ford just plays Indy in Raiders with a bit more edge, charisma and sexual tension. René Belloq is also the best villain he ever competed against, being a sort of fully realized shadow version of Indy himself.

The Last Crusade. I love the dynamic between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery.

Raiders is my favorite, followed by Last Crusade and Temple of Doom.

I do like Crystal Skull. Part of it was filmed in my neck of the woods (the campus chase), and I get a kick out of seeing the locations used. I remember Spielberg was looking for extras that week. It was big news.

But yeah, Raiders is an all-time classic.

I rank them as when they were released.

Though Last Crusade sort of captured the excitement of Raiders, I always thought it was bothersome to make Brody as the comedy relief and a bit of a dunce. In Raiders, Brody actually said he would've gone after the ark if he was younger.

Crusade.

Raiders have weak ending, Temple is not that good, and I dont like Kingdom at all, so the choice is simple here.

Right - its really the only one I watch and own on disc. Why? Its simply a terrific action film with the perfect balance between character development and action. Hard to beat it. The rest of the films in the series do nothing for me at all. Its a one and done for me.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favourite.

Why? Because the supernaturally powered Ark of the Covenant's a terrifying relic from the past (theorised to be a communications device for contacting God), perhaps even extraterrestrial in origin? Quite a fascinating archeological discovery - and deadly to the touch.

Also, the film has the creepiest moment in the series (imo); the Ark's barely contained power sears away the (offensive) Nazi swastika (stencilled on the crate holding the Ark). The unfortunate rats down in the Bantu Wind's hold screech in agony, affected by the unearthly sounds emanating from it.

An instant classic. Sadly didn't see it back in the day, but have fond memories of collecting the trading cards.

Its hard to choose between the first 3. Raiders is probably the best but I think the other two are almost just as good.

Recently watched all 4 again (having seen each in theaters since I was a small kid). Temple of Doom as once they enter that secret room in the castle, it's non-stop adventure and over the top excitement from that point till the end of the film. The cart ride was great, the flood was cool, the heart cage lowered to the lava was unique, and the possession was supernatural in this series. The fights were good too. Great pacing.

Temple Doom
Raiders Lost
Last Crusade
Crystal Skull

Dial Destiny, not sure how it'll rank. Hopefully tops Crystal Skull or better in 2023.

We'll all have to wait until Dial of Destiny is released, then we can give our definitive answers.

The Last Crusade. The opening sequence and the final half hour got it over the line compared to the other two also excellent films.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade I believe it was the first Indiana Jones film that I ever saw. I remember my parents rented on VHS and two of my grandparents where down at the time. There was a power cut half way through the film. It lasted for about half an hour then we got back to the film.
