When I hit the info button, on some inputs the information displays as an overlay over the picture. On other inputs the screen goes black then it displays the information. Is there a setting so the info displays as an overlay over the picture. Or is that only available on certain inputs?

Turn on video conversion. Just to let you know this can affect pq.

That is fine with the pass throughs but ip scaler set to on can and does affect the picture to scale the overlay. Read the first few posts in the link I post. I turned mine off since I didn't want it to mess with the picture. I have mine set with ip scaler to off and I use the black screen for the info but to each their own. https://www.avforums.com/threads/den...970691/page-12

Do Denon receivers sound warmer?
I went from an Onkyo TX-NR818 to the Denon 4520ci and the Denon does sound different, but warmer is not the way I would describe it. I love my Denon much better than the Onkyo, but the Denon has more power(150w 8ohm) and the Audyessey Platinum along with other features to enhance audio. I had Polk Monitor 70s as fronts and Monitor 60s as surrounds along with 2 subs. The monitor 50s and 60s would be close to what you have. The first thing I had to do when my Denon was hooked up was replace the speakers. I replaced them with Polks RTi-A12s as fronts and for my surrounds I used JBL ES80s along with 2 subs. This was when my Denon came alive. What I am trying to say is that the Denon will sound different, but it may not sound much different than your Onkyo. Audition this Denon before buying. What sold me on my Denon was replacing my speakers with much better ones. Your Onkyo and my Denon both use Burr-Brown DACs which are great but the newer Denons and Onkyos are now using AK-DACs which may change the sound alot. Personally I think you would love the Denon X1300 but please audition this model first. Hope this helps, and good luck.

I don't know what it does, but I can feel a difference in my eyes when I turn it on. It must add edge enhancement or sharpness to the picture. Thanks for all the great info.

No problem bud, some people like it or have no problem with the picture change when it's set to on. I didn't like it and the black screen for info/settings is fine for me since I can still use it to change settings.

Also keep in mind that any video processing done by the receiver will add input lag. So if you're a heavy gamer that's something to consider.

Default Help!!!

I'm having a serious problem with this receiver (X4200W), also I'm using with an external amplifier for 7.2.2, here they are:

1. Whenever I turn on the receiver, I get NO sound at all, it usually turns 30mins to 1 hr. to get the "letters" on the front of the receiver to light up. I just have to keep switching sources.

2. When I was playing PS4 early today, the receiver, for no reason, decided to do what my "First Step Above" does. It made that clicking noise, and the "letters" disappeared... I wasn't sure if it was going to "letters" were to going to come back or not, because I had to go to work.

If someone has a solution please tell me, I've tried factory reset one after the other, and that does NOTHING, I'm also updated to the latest firmware update.

I've switched HDMI cables and nothing!

I just exchanged a 6200 for a Marantz. When I went to 11.1 a horrible buzzing started. Tried it with someone with the same receiver and nothing. Good luck with customer service, it's a pain. Maybee you can exchange it from the place you bought it. Denon will tell you to ship it to an authorized dealer that fixes them. You have to pay the shipping.

How'd you exchange? And how much is shipping, or does it vary on places?

They exchanged it because it was a brand new receiver and the were sold out of the Denons and the Marantz is basically the same. Shipping varies. I would talk first to the place you bought it from, if you don't like their response then talk to Denon.

I bought this on eBay, brand new, but the guy wouldn't respond back at all, and plus he deleted the listing for it, too... Which makes things A LOT harder than it should be. As, I need that invoice for the service center to verify the warranty.

Was the seller an authorized reseller? Some brands won't honor Warren ties if not sold from an authorized reseller. That's the reason I purchased my two Marantz pieces from authorized resellers so I wouldn't have to get grief from Marantz. I hear they are kinda serious about that.

The manual of my Denon 4520 does not have the Loudness Management feature although it talks about it under the Audyessey Dynamic EQ, and Dynamic Volume settings, but yet it is still confusing. From what I have read on-line, the newer Denon AVRs allow you to turn the Loudness feature off but when a Dolby digital source is played the AVR automatically activates this feature by default. For what its worth, the way I understand this feature is that when you choose to activate Audyessey Dynamic EQ and or Dynamic Volume is what this feature is for. I'm in the same boat as you. Hopefully someone will chime in that can make some sense about this feature. Like I said earlier, my unit does not have this feature but yet it mentions Loudness Management when talking about Audyessey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume.

If you have this years or last years receiver capable of running 11.1 and you are running 11.1 check for static coming from your speakers. Denon is aware of the problem. When running audyessey a static noise comes from the speakers. It's seems louder in the surrounds and heights. When you shut off audyessey the noise should disappear. Anyone else notice this?

Shutting off audyessey solves the problem. Denon is working on it. Problem is only when running 11.1. If you are using 9 or less speakers, you shouldn't hear a problem.

Shutting off audyssey takes away half the immersive sound effect
