They never should have fired Mangino in the first place. He made Kansas into a contender for the Big 12 title and led them to an 12-1 record in 2007 with an Orange Bowl victory and #7 ranking but there were some complaints about him being verbally abusive and this was at the same time as the Mike Leach Texas Tech situation so the administration may have overreacted.
Kansas has the money if they want to fire him. They built an entire new building to house a piece of paper. It may have been for basketball but they have the money.

The building to house the rules of basketball is being privately financed, and while they could probably afford to buy Weis out I just don't think football is popular enough in Kansas to justify paying Weis a $7.5 million and then hiring yet another coach at $2.5 million per year. If it was the basketball program doing poorly they'd have no problem firing the coach because basketball is king at Kansas, but football is nowhere near as popular. They've had almost 10,000 unsold tickets at every game so far this year and against Baylor last week they had roughly 18,000 unsold tickets.

No proven coach would come to Kansas either. They would either have to hire a mid-major coach like Turner Gill or a past their prime coach like Weis. If they fire Weis that would be $16.5 million the school has paid in buyouts to football coaches in a 5-year span. I think Weis gets at least another year.

In a fairly surprising move Texas has reportedly hired Arizona State's Steve Patterson as their new athletic director. Patterson had always been mentioned as a candidate but prior reports had pegged West Virginia's Oliver Luck as the favorite for the job. Patterson got his undergrad and law degree from Texas. He

What the hell is going on over at Kal?

Fight sends Cal freshman to hospital
Henry K. Lee
Updated 9:33 am, Tuesday, November 5, 2013

Two Cal football players were involved in a locker room altercation Friday that resulted in one being taken to a hospital, UC Berkeley police said Monday.

Freshman Fabiano Hale, 18, was injured during a fight at the Simpson Center adjacent to Memorial Stadium and suffered unspecified injuries. He was initially taken to the Tang Center, the university clinic, before being moved to Alta Bates Medical Center, said university police Lt. Marc DeCoulode.

DeCoulode declined to name the second player involved and was unclear on the circumstances leading up to the incident.

"It was one-on-one," DeCoulode said. He added, "We know who the suspect is."

Police would not say whether they had already interviewed the other player involved and declined to say whether charges might be filed.

The incident comes at a difficult time for Cal. The team is 1-8 (0-6 in the Pac-12) in head coach Sonny Dykes' first season and has lost 11 straight games to Pac-12 foes and 13 straight to teams in the FBS.

When asked about the incident Monday, Dykes declined to offer any official comment.

In addition to its problems on the field, the football program also posted the worst graduation rate (44 percent) among 72 major college football programs, according to statistics released by the NCAA on Oct. 24.

The incident happened after a workout involving players who don't travel with the team. Hale, a running back, graduated from Soquel (Santa Cruz County) High.
And some tweets:

According to source, the player who hit Hale, another freshman, was still allowed to suit up for Saturday's game. Didn't play, but dressed

Hunter Hewitt ‏@HunterHewitt 2m
All of that was from a close family friend, who also told Fabiano Hale's stepdad would be calling me shortly

Hunter Hewitt ‏@HunterHewitt 3m
According to family friend, Hale's parents were upset it took so long for them to be contacted & no one from Cal was w/ Hale at the hospital

Hunter Hewitt ‏@HunterHewitt 5m
..Hale was taken to the hospital and for two hours no one contacted his parents. Finally a teammate's family called his parents & they came

Hunter Hewitt ‏@HunterHewitt 6m
..Players were told to deal with Hale on their own but "leave it in the locker room." Hale was later seen in the locker room and blindsided

Hunter Hewitt ‏@HunterHewitt 7m
A family friend of Fabiano Hale told me he slept in and missed the Friday workout. Players had to do extra work because of his absence..

Hunter Hewitt ‏@HunterHewitt 11m
I'm hearing some troubling things about this Fabiano Hale story that I really hope are not true

Yeah, FSU just can't recruit with the big dogs. I hate it but they may be back and taking what they want and leaving the scraps for everyone else.

This play was ruled a safety in last night's Ohio-Buffalo game. The quarterback was called for intentional grounding, and the referees said the throw was in the end zone and thus it was a safety.

Supposedly Nick Saban's people are claiming Texas is the only coaching job he'd consider taking if he left Alabama. The story goes that Saban doesn't like the constant expectations of perfection every year at Bama. That doesn't even make sense. Coaches at Texas have expectations just as high. Mack Brown has a national title in the bank and is still on the hot seat after some bad years. This is likely just Saban using the Texas job as leverage to get more money out of Alabama.

I believe every good lie has half truths in it

So despite the high expectations he still wouldn't trade it for another gig

Saban is the highest paid coach. Who's the second and how much more does Saban make per year? What football program made the most money last year by a large margin? Who was 6th on that list? Saban to Texas is a very real possibility.

Saban would never put up with the Longhorn Network.

Ya, not happening. Only way I could see it happening is if they make him such a ridiculous deal he has to take the money. He's already making like $5.5 mill a year with Bama. He'd probably require at least several mill more a year to go to Texas. And it's doubtful Bama lets themselves get outbid by that much.

I'll answer my questions for you. Brown is second on the list and Saban only makes $3000 more a year than him. Texas is first on the list with $65,000,000 profit. 1st by a wide margin to runner up ND. Bama is 6th on the list and LSU is ahead of Bama. Texas has better natural recruiting than Bama. Seems like most Bama recruits are now out of state. Wouldn't have to leave the state. Rather live in Austin or Tuscoloosa? Will never be the best coach at Bama. Little man's ego can't take that. He's not staying at Bama forever. He never stays too long. What else is there to prove at Bama? It's back to the NFL, I don't think that happens, or off to another school, Texas seems perfect to me. Why do you think Texas would never happen?
