I wish I had proof of this, or a flyer or e-mail or something, but that's what she said.
I mentioned this about 3 pages back and didn't get much of a response from anybody. So I thought I'd post an update.

I went into B&N again yesterday and confirmed this with the manager again. She says it's legit. Just FYI

Thanks, I really appreciate it. Outside of Revanche I've been waiting since November to catch-up.

At the Borders sale I bought Red Desert, Stagecoach, Howards End, Bottle Rocket, and Gimme Shelter. Now bring on the B&N sale!

Are you refering to Barnes + Noble?
I'm no American and therefore not familiar with all shops.

Yes I believe he was. I am also waiting for the sale, did very well last year even if I live in Canada. Criterion are expensive here at times

Has anyone else noticed the security devices that Borders uses on their box sets? It is a plastic device that has two plastic cables which wrap around the box and cinches tight when locked. When the cables are tensioned they crush the edges of the box. The device would be fine if the box were plastic, but most boxes are made of paper. Every Criterion box set or digipak was completely mangled. Most Borders stores in my area used to keep all box sets in a display case, but I guess storing all the Criterions in a case was taking up too much space.

The employees at that store must be putting them on too tight. I picked up "The Leopard" at Borders on Friday, and my case was fine.

Sounds rational but on my 3-disc edition of Brazil they numbered it like 54.1, 54.2, 54.3. I just wish they were more consistent. It just looks odd keeping the case for that title only and I wish the back of each case was like all the others with all the information like features, runtime etc. I believe the first half has all the scenes listed and the second case is empty on the back. Oh well....

I was hoping to get The Leopard from Borders, but it was either out of stock or they couldn't find it at the stores I stopped by. Guess I will wait for the B&N sale now.

That's the only one that ever did that, and when they re-released the 1st disc by itself it was simply labeled 51.

They lost rights to everything that was licensed from Studio Canal and it's highly unlikely that they will be able to license these titles again in the near future.

The easiest way to find some of this information is to visit Criterion's own site, which lists titles when they go OOP.

These are the two most recent OOP announcements for DVDs and blu-rays from Criterion's website...

February OOP titles
June OOP titles

The Man Who Fell To Earth is officially OOP from Criterion as of June 30, 2010 and is no longer available through their website, but can still be found from other retailers.

Pierrot le fou is officially OOP from Criterion as of the end of March 2010, but it is still available through their website and other retailers until they sale out.

The rights for The Third Man were taken back by Studio Canal, which will be releasing their own blu-ray through Lionsgate on September 21, 2010. So, don't expect to see another Criterion release for The Third Man anytime soon.

Since we don't have a Flicker Alley page, and the fact that this is dvd only, I thought I post this for the people who cares (like me and kndy).

DVDBeaver review of the silent film Chicago:
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/dvd_r...cago_1927_.htm

P.S., whoever has the Flicker Alley release of Murnau's Phantom, can you tell me how well the transfer is? Flicker Alley looks to have good transfers and I was wondering if I should buy FA's release instead of having to import the MoC release.

I also wanted to post this funny thing for no reason. A gagged smilie.

Rights were lost to The Third Man. StudioCanal is putting out a Blu-Ray edition of the film in the future so you just know it's going to be a high-quality release.
