Surf, I asked Rom, but I'd like you to answer the question as well.

[Show spoiler]When you say sexual violence, do you mean enthusiastic rough sex? Or does the couple actually beat/rape each other? I need some clarity on this before I see it.

Okay, i am sending you my friendship request.
We have the same tastes for top 2 Pixar flicks (only for me Ratatouille is #1 and Wall-E #2 instead of the other way around)

both, mostly the former. when the latter occurs, its never
[Show spoiler]rape, as its always consensual
, more of the

Magnolia

watched Magnolia last night (into this morning ) and sometimes i almost wish i didn't love this film, because once i start it, i never stop it. and for a 3 hour movie, sometimes that's a huge chunk of the day to devote to a film... especially when you start it at 11:30pm and you've already been awake non-stop since 6:30am.

but either way, i'm glad i stayed and watched it, again, because i love Magnolia

i'm not positive but for a long stretch of the first half / hour of the film, there is music ALWAYS playing in every single scene, and it carries over from character to character. as if the film wasn't already multi-layered and wonderful, having a terrific, haunting score float over each and every scene for quite some time really pulls the large cast together and makes the film really feel connected and manageable to follow. i didn't even really notice until suddenly it stopped and i thought, "wow. that was playing for a very long time... i love it!"

i don't believe i have ever seen such a large cast of absolutely STELLAR performances in all my life. usually films have one or two great performances, but Magnolia has like, 12. i know most of the cast are well known, well trained actors and actresses, but that doesn't guarantee a great performance. i don't know what Paul Thomas Anderson did to get his cast so worked up to get the magic out of every single scene, but the man is a legend simply because of this alone in my eyes.

Tom Cruise gives what is the best performance of his career (from what i've seen, which is not everything). 90% of his performance are his facial expressions, and you can just see the awkwardness, the anger, the hostility, the paranoia, the uneasiness that comes over him during a very intimate interview segment.

Jullianne Moore also give a top notch performance of a woman who feels extremely guilty for some things she has done to her much older husband. her half-panicked, half "don't call me lady!" crazy rants and exhausted delivery really feel like a real person and not just a role.

i could go on and on, which i tend to do a lot so i'll stop here.
needless to say, Paul Thomas Anderson has become my favorite Director. i could watch all four (5, but i haven't seen Hard Eight yet) of his films non-stop for days and days. his directing is very subtly hypnotizing, and his scripts are always incredibly smart and make you think. and every film of his requires more than one viewing to really soak it all in and enjoy. love that

I watched a movie from Surf's absolute favorite type of films today....Superhero movies!

The Dark Knight

Previously reviewed.

I love this movie

Side note: I can't help but when Michael Caine has to get "stuck" on the boat with all the Russian ballerina's

and when Bruce tells Dent, "Oh...so you like ballet? "

Rating - 5/5

Predators

film 7/10
pq 9-/10 - grain on some (darker) scenes
aq 9/10

good film all around, I`m sure most of you know what it`s all about. BR was good, could have had more extras maybe ... ? hopefully sequel happens. only gripe was that film was quite similar with the original ... I bought the play.com steelbook - nice !

Thomas Ian Griffith also made a few action films in the 90's. They were typical early 90's fare, but were alright for the most part. And as far as Macchio, I like the Lipton Iced Tea commercial.

Yeah I bet it did, I'd probably consider it myself if I didn't have so many movies coming out in November and December that I want to get. Kind of tired, may nap through Wall-E.

Have you watched The Killer Inside Me? I thought the
[Show spoiler]beating Jessica Alba to death
brought the movie down several notches because of how disturbing it was. Are we talking a lot of that? Or are we talking about the use of coke bottles or brooms or sharp objects in bed??? I think I'm with Squid on this - trying to gauge the type of violence to reduce wasting my time.

Yeah, I am all for a good
[Show spoiler]angry monkey sex session with biting and slapping,
but I cant watch rape, like Jodie Foster in The Accused. That killed me.

It added to the quality of the movie to me,
[Show spoiler]also it's not like Affleck beating Hudson until she passed out and pissed herself was any better.

IMO, the quality of the movie was already there and didn't need what seemed like several minute of this to take place, with nothing left to the imagination. Plus,
[Show spoiler] although the act/cgi looked realistic, all I heard was a slight "hey that hursts" after the first minute while her face was being butchered with no attempt at getting away or any other form of protest - just took me out of the movie at that point!!

I just swaw it. This movie was pretty awesome. Haven't seen it in years. The picture was really bad though.

No, haven't seen that. Depends on what you mean: equally disturbing as that? Probably. Equally culpable as that? I don't think so.

Like I said:
[Show spoiler]consensual rough (non-violent) sex for most of the film. S&M violent sex is few and far between, but includes graphic self-torture. There is non-consensual violence, but its not during sex
