I like everything Marvel has done so far, so I don't think they will let me down now. I can suspend my beliefs for most things in movies, but this one is a sticking point for me. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around a "walking, talking, shooting" raccoon, side by side with other Marvel heroes/Avengers. I'm sure it works in the comics (I've never read GOTG comics), but transitioning that to the big screen with the likes of the current Marvel heroes? Like I said, Marvel hasn't let me down yet so I'm expecting to be blown away in August.

If you can take a "God" or the "Jolly Green Giant" seriously... Rocket shouldn't be a problem.

Since he's not being played for laughs. He's being treated as the serious character in the comics he is.

I think at this point, "Marvel" is name recognition enough.

People said that about the 'realism' of the Iron Man films (at least after the first) being undermined by or clashing with the more sci-fi Thor and Hulk characters in The Avengers but it turned out to be fine.

I see what you mean and it's possible we'll only see Star Lord in Avengers 3 (which is when the GotG characters are likely to turn up) as the latest rumours concentrated on Chris Pratt being contracted for the film, which would assuage any fears. However, I hope and assume this isn't the case and that we'll get the whole bunch as it makes sense with the Thanos connection. By Avengers 3 we'll have already seen the characters battle a sentient robot and about to come up against a death-loving alien warlord. A vicious, talking raccoon won't be such a stretch by then.

Plus I am really, really looking forward to seeing Stark's reaction to Rocket and hearing their banter.

I'm so glad for Rocket's design they went with "actual animal raccoon" instead of "horrible cartoon creature" that any other studio/creative team would've done.
