I think the only reason to double, triple, or for some quadruple dip would be to see it in 3D. Also.... there is no standalone 2D disc, it's one Blu that gives you a 3D or 2D option. For me, no brainer since I never bought a bluray version and only owned the old DVD DTS edition.

I watched Predator 3D last night and was surprised by the quality of the conversion. The jungle scenes were well layered and the embossing of the actors was good. Even the predator vision scenes were layered.

I'm not sure why the U.S. got a DVD for a second disk and Europe got the UHE. Perhaps it had something to do with available inventory or the level of sales in each region of the DVD and Blu-ray. In either case, the second disk was included for the extras, none of which appear on 3D/2D disk 1.

The UHE has all the extras included with the DVD, as well as the following extras which are exclusively on the UHE BD:

Predator, Evolution of a Species; Hunters of Extreme Perfection (HD)

Text Commentary film historian Eric Lichtenfeld (subtitles with a wealth of background info and quotes)

Short Takes

Photo Gallery

Predator Profile (Weapons details)

Predators sneak peek (HD)

I plan to swap the DVD for the UHE in the 3D case.

Looks like the Predator Head 3D is sold out. The page gives an error when you try to visit it.

It's ridiculous that this film has been released on BD three times and it has yet to receive a full-on restoration.

Fox nearly got it right with the original BD but the film still needs some work done on it.

Default the 3d version best of all 3 bi far

Fox first version was terrible, looked like vhs no color, bitrate so low it averaged 8.4.this 3d version so much color, little bit to much wax here and there film is thirty years old.i never thought I would predator look so good. I did see predator in the theater in 1987 and remember beautiful colors, just like this version.

Lol the first BD isn't terrible, it's much better then the crappy over-processed & over-brightened transfers that we've had since then.

It doesn't look like a VHS transfer, what are you blabbing on about.

The colours look fine for the most part, much more accurate to how it looks originally then the other two transfers.

Even though so far the 3D conversions have been from their Sci-Fi catalog
I could see them doing a Die Hard conversion

I went into watching this with extremely low expectations, but I've got to say that I was tremendously impressed. There's a very good amount of depth throughout the entire film, even during the night time showdown at the end. It's really one of the best catalog conversions I've seen. The UHE transfer is a travesty in 2D, but it really does seem like it was tailor made with a 3D release in mind. It works exceptionally well, and many of the UHE transfer's flaws are masked in 3D (which is often the case with 3D conversions where the grain is scrubbed and a generous amount of DNR is lathered on).

I'll still watch the 2008 release for my 2D viewing, and it's still the best Blu-ray release of the film to date, but the 3D conversion is a heck of a lot of fun. If you're a fan of the film and a fan of 3D at home, you shouldn't hesitate on picking this up (especially at the very reasonable $14.99 release week pricing). Just make sure you have the 2008 release as well.

Thanks for your comments. I haven't picked it up yet but your comments seem to indicate that I might enjoy the release. DNR is always a bother to me but with 3D releases the added dimensionality does seem to help mask other shortcomings and I was still curious about the conversion despite the UHE source. I guess I'll hold on to my 2008 Blu-ray release and pick this one up as well.

Sounds like mostly positive reviews about the 3D being better than I Robot's very mild 3D, though obviously unable to compare to direct conversions like Jurassic Park or Titanic 3D.

The Smoothing DNR on Jurassic Park is noticeable sitting up close, and probably here too, but farther back, the grain free effect loses impact.

I'll have to check this Predator 3D release in the Best Buy next time I get a chance. Thanks for the reviews.

Die Hard and Alien are two films that i would like to see (and mediamarkt do their lenticular steelbooks with them)

massive fans of both movies and have them across various formats so a 3D version would be worth watching out of curiousity

Agreed, I only skimmed through a few scenes and was pleasantly surprised by the 3d for the price. Yes, the first scene with Dutch and Dillon still looks waxy as hell but the rest looked pretty good and detailed in 3d. It isn't perfect but I love this movie and can't wait to watch the whole thing in 3d!

You gotta look hard. It took me 30 min to find it. It wasn't on the normal shelves but part of a display for new releases at the front. I finally found it at the very bottom on the side part of the display.

We watched this last night and loved it. The 3D is present throughout the movie, the movie looks really good, and for 14.99 this is an absolute no brainer. No reason this isn't part of any 3D collection.

I found it on the New Release shelf in the middle of the Best Buy store. They had about 10 copies in stock for Predator 3D.

I didn't have Predator on video, so for 14.99 and in 3D, I agree, it's a good deal. Even though the 3D is mostly mild, there are some nice medium 3D shots.
