Hi, and presumably is Canada pretty much the "same" as USA in terms of BluRay releases and distribution?

Disney Pixar 3D are released in the US on BR3D, but not Disney animated 3D.

I see Everest is playing in Digital XD and possibly Imax 3D this Friday at some theaters.
OZ was the last release to get a 3D Blu-ray, but Maleficent was the last live action 3D Disney movie and it did not get a 3D Blu-ray release in the US.

I think it is, as far as Disney are concerned anyway...

I'd actually be ashamed if I made a 3D film that was then only released on 2D blu ray in my home country, so this will be a good test to see if Jon Favreau is just part of the corporate machine or not...

If I'd gone to all that trouble crafting an effective 3-D presentation I'd consider it an insult. And if I had the clout I'd get on to their home video department and demand to know WTF they were playing at. Heads would roll.

I still think Disney may yet reconsider their position. When Jurassic World is putting out no less than 3 separate 3-D editions, there's clearly money to be made in 3D-Bluray.

"Lost in the Pacific" trailer:

With films of this caliber, it looks like finally 3-D will get the prestige and respect that has eluded the format for so long.

Yeah that was sarcasm.

^ A 3D rom-com? Wow,nice to see 3D moving into a new genre. Maybe this will do well enough with the rom-com crowd to do some more down the road.

Only one Hollywood native release On the other hand this has definitely been the year conversions have come of age. The craft in the conversion process has really matured to the point where Poltergeist and the Walk trailers fooled me into thinking they were native at a glance. No conversion is as good as TS Spivet from last year but I must say that conversions have gotten the upper hand on native in movies.
What are your favorites aside from Walk and Poltergeist?

3D in 2015 was very good with plenty of theatrical movies to see in 3D. I didn't get burned with any mild 3D movies from what I remember.
So far my favorites for 3D include:
The Martian 3D
Mad Max Fury Road 3D
Ant Man 3D
The Walk 3D

Maybe a few others; have to check the list.

I was under the impression that TS Spivet had been shot in 3D

Definitely

Mad Max Fury Road
Ant Man
Terminator Genisys

the above three really impressed me in 3D.

I haven't been impressed with the 3D in any of this year's 3D releases except Spongebob Squarepants, which was a visual treat. I've yet to see Minions but I expect the 3D will be decent there too. Yeah, all the various big budget conversions do look quite nice, with San Andreas and Seventh Son being my favourites, but "quite nice" isn't good enough for material that deserves super-strong 3D. Conversions just don't have enough pop-out for my liking.

Pop out is never going to be a big thing. People have decided they don't want, as have film makers. Sure you will get some natural pop out, but for the most part the industry has moved on from that.

Actually PEOPLE WANT pop outs. They wanna feel Like they are on a ride while watching 3D. But the studio FAIL to see that hopefully they will wake up because no pop out is what is killing 3D ticket sales.

No, the ticket prices and horrible movies being made in 3D are killing it. (Plus, parents just aren't going to spend the extra money for the kids films anymore.)

Just yesterday, when buying my ticket to see Goosebumps in 3D, the lady said "this is the 3D showing" and I asked "why are you still telling people that?"; and she said because some people hate 3D and will come back to me for a refund.

Probably so they can choose to go to an alternate 2D showing.

There are clearly plenty of people who love pop out but sadly many film makers don't, which kind of cripples the artistic potential, which is the whole point of cinema, but hey ho, the industry moved on from art a long time ago it's true. As long as interesting directors still make 3D films, I'll be happy.

Yeah, with ticket prices for crappy barely-there 3D being what they are, why would parents pay extra? Kids do go crazy for quality 3D pop-outs though, I've seen 'em. They also don't give a **** about 4K, that's for sure...

I've done just the opposite. I still feel I was misinformed on their website, but it's possible the error was mine. Anyway I was literally outraged that they'd dare to screen a 3-D movie on their premium-priced giant screen, only in 2d. What a waste!

Some will complain about a lack of 2d screenings, I'm of the view that when a film has been made in 3-D and for 3-D, the curmudgeons shouldn't feel entitled to any 2d screening.
