Seems like Plains has slowed down a lot as far as releases. Used to be clockwork every month like Nova and Kimchi. Wonder what's been going on. Would think maybe some more recent releases not selling out like early on might be a factor.

I've fallen out of love with Plain. Too much obscure Korean stuff being released. I get it, they're a Korean retailer. But there used to be a nice, 50-50 balance between Korean and American/European cinema releases. The balance's been shifted towards 80-20 with most of the stuff being Korean now. And I guess that's okay, but it's mostly stuff I ain't heard of (or seen a trailer of). And I ain't spending $40-50 on something I might "just enjoy" for a one-time viewing. Plus, they're terrible with keeping their customers abreast of their releases. Wasn't World War Z supposed to come out last year? Just an example of another Plain release that just fades away into obscurity after revealing some appealing artwork.

Just waiting for Plain to make a grand return, but for now, it's slim pickings.

They were recently asked about the release of the Florida Project and they just stated it'll be released this 'fall', so hopefully something within the next couple of months.

From looking at their various social media accounts, it looks like they've recently relocated to new premises, so that's one of the reasons for the extended delays to any releases. Also, taking part in an increasing number of public events no doubt adding further delays. Just hope they've settled in now and announce a number of releases soon..fingers crossed :-). I'm looking forward to their releases of A Monster Calls and the Park Chan Wook series The Little Drummer Girl, along with The Florida Project.

There are many alternatives (often cheaper) to non-Korean releases. Not many people are movie collectors and even fewer movie steelbook/cover/art collectors. So maybe Plain is seeing much more Korean movies being sold than the non-Korean movies.

I’m sure that’s true but regardless they’re deviating from what made them appealing (to me) in the first place. Imagine if Blufans did a 180 and suddenly stopped doing Marvel movies and started doing arthouse releases. Sure, that’s their prerogative but don’t tell me loyal buyers would continue following blindly.

Plain is releasing One Cut of the Dead on bluray, preorder is Dec 13 at 4pm Korea time.

Their DVD did not include English subtitles so I don't know if this one will. Their announcement on instagram says this, google-translated so obviously not great:

[Guide] Additional voiceover translation and package design approval delayed schedule. ��
But finally! Blu-ray limited edition preorder will take place on 12/13 (Friday) 4PM. Enclosed is a special and quirky pin badge with #the world of other things.

Perhaps "voiceover translation" means they were adding subtitles? No idea.

I'll be honest, I forget Plain exists half the time. You don't really hear about them putting out must get releases or any on a sort of consistant schedule anymore. I mean another edition of Carol? Really? I get that it must sell well enough to pay the bills, but that's not how you grow your brand. Maybe they've become complacent or don't really care much for the international market anymore.

I am hoping the new year brings better news from Plain. Really hoping they get Parasite and maybe some bigger name movies/deserving indie movies as releases, or maybe just release some of the previously announced stuff that has been just sitting in limbo for year(s) at this point.

I believe that CJ entertainment shall be the company releasing Parasite in Korea.
Plain actually have been involved with the Parasite Steelbook due for release in France for the company called 'The Jokers'
