doesn't seem likely tbh, but my fingers are still crossed for return to dust. first film i saw in the cinema in ages and i really liked it, but china's govt didn't seem to appreciate its depiction of rural life and the marginalised.

The alternate text ending the censors added seems very odd and out of keeping with the main film talking about Ma Youtie moving to a new house with the aid of the government and villagers! A similar thing happened witn Minions: The Rise of Gru where Knuckles is given a prison sentence and we’re told Gru becomes a good guy!

However with Modern Films I wouldn’t expect a DVD for a while, or never.

I didn’t like the documentary (it’s just a loosely edited clip show), but A Portrait in Parts boasts 50 minutes of extras: interviews with Kevin Loader, archive producers, composer, music supervisor, editor, plus art cards.

Not even a DVD release from Universal listed for ‘Bros’ at the moment, so a potential MediumRare or Dazzler pick-up… unless it’s never to be seen again a la ‘The Night House’.

Okay, so Matilda The Musical is now up for pre-order on Amazon on DVD and Bluray... for May 2024. Seems insane keeping the window that big for a film which will no doubt end up fileshared the second the US gets it on Netflix in less than three weeks.

It’s probably a placeholder date.

We’re still having theatrical films released on Blu-ray before they hit UK cinemas

Extends to VOD releases too!

Or it releases on disc the same month the film releases in the UK.

Conic gave Utama quite a limited UK theatrical release, but it’s getting a US Blu-ray from Kino.

Vertigo will release Nocebo on DVD on 27th February, maybe Second Sight could do a BD in future.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nocebo-DVD-...dp/B0BPJJXP6X/

New Wave will release What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? on DVD on the same day.

Would be great to see The Final Countdown get released in the UK. The US just got a 4K release with extras.

Project Wolf Hunting is getting a US Blu-ray two weeks before the UK (theatrical?) release from Icon!

Hunt will also receive a US Blu-ray from Well Go in February, Altitude haven’t shown any indication of releasing a UK BD/DVD despite releasing the film to PVOD/‘theatrical’ more than a month ago.

Old news I know but has there been any official reason given why The French Dispatch is still AWOL?

Outside of Disney not thinking anyone wants it, not really. They seems to be only interested in putting out Searchlight films if they manage to get some awards buzz or box office results, and even then it’s a little uncertain (The Menu at the moment is hanging in limbo, despite the fact it really seems like it clicked with people).

Doesn't make much sense if we're talking box office as The French Dispatch was most popular in the UK out of all international territories ($1m+ opening weekend, $5.5m gross), whereas other recent Searchlight films like Nomadland and Nightmare Alley got UK Blu-rays despite doing worse numbers. Same goes for 20th Century Studios titles like The Last Duel and Amsterdam, in fact (both of which were fumbled when it came to theatrical release, in my opinion).

At least they paid attention in regards to The Banshees of Inisherin, which has been a huge hit over here ($10.8m and counting). So that's definitely secured a Blu-ray release over here, not least because it'll also cover Ireland.

PS: I suggested elsewhere that perhaps Disney skipped a UK Blu-ray of The French Dispatch because they knew Criterion would be licensing it off them later on (for US/Canada/UK), but someone pooh-poohed that. I was of the belief that Anderson has a deal with Criterion that means they will appear as part of the collection at least a few years after the theatrical release (meaning Isle of Dogs could show up soon).

2022’s other, less feline, Antonia Banderas vehicle, The Enforcer, will be released on DVD by Vertigo on 27th March, a couple of months after its cinema release.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Enforcer-DV...dp/B0BPJ4YQH6/

It also looks like music biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody will only be released on DVD by Sony.
