Sadly not. I keep meaning to see if Microsoft have a UHD version on the Xbox store, but dunno if I'd buy it.

I'm sorry to hear you are "literally" dying from excitement.

But really, I'm not sure I want to know, but while you die - are you also hard?

Which is what the Blu-ray had.

If you're referring to the 2.0 mix, there was a 70MM 4.2 version that's been the basis of the home video versions since the THX AC-3 LaserDiscs.

Dunno, my US slipcover looks pretty shiny. Oh, we loves the shiny....

So at first glance, this disc looks great. Bonus points for using Ode to Joy on the menu. Very satisfied with sharpness, increases in detail, and more than anything, the very cinematic color grading the UHD boasts. The richness of the LA skyline at sunset is just beautiful. Skin tones are excellent, and grain retention is very fine. HDR is restrained, never going overboard, but expertly balancing light values. Consider McClane's first confrontation -- hiding in the dark behind a big stack of sheet-rock when Tony(?) comes in and turns on the lights looking for him. The balance between the darkened, then suddenly illuminated room is excellent. The original blu-ray looks very flat in comparison -- not just in that scene, but across the board.

I hate to be the "you have to see it in motion" guy, but, well, you have to see it in motion. Improved compression on a UHD disc affects many elements of picture quality -- grain for one -- but in an action movie with a lot of fast-moving imagery, the picture just appears more "solid" if you know what I mean. The perceivable increase in picture detail is generally stronger than what you're seeing in screencaps.

Comparing BDs to UHDs is becoming increasingly pointless to me -- but if you love this movie, and you already own the BD, then hell yes, this is an easy upgrade.

I would expect to hear a number of "it's too dark" complaints as the disc gets into more hands, ala UNFORGIVEN. But I think many people would be surprised at how dark the theatrical prints were for this film back in 1988. If you feel the image is too dark you should adjust your set accordingly.

I've read the growing excitement about this release, and it's well earned. You will not be disappointed, and I think a fair number of collectors will be downright thrilled. Fox has done excellent work here, which hopefully will translate to PREDATOR. But I'm also thinking about THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, another John McTiernan / Jan de Bont effort -- and hopefully somebody at Paramount takes a peek at this DIE HARD disc.

Hi guys. Big fan of this movie and was hoping to get a steelbook version, which is apparently only available at Best Buy ~ haven't been able to find a link to it anywhere.

Anyone else seen it advertised or online anywhere?

Cheers!

I just bought the UK Blu-ray release. UHD digital will be released this summer but judging from those other WB animated features on UHD, I'm not expecting much from it. Movie itself is a blast though. Shame there's no Japanese lossless audio but I guess I should be glad there's a Japanese audiotrack at all.

As for Die Hard, I'm getting the German steelbook after all. At least it has the English title on the cover.

Oooh, I've never owned this on anything other than VHS and DVD, this is top of my list. I watched it so many times that I never felt motivated to buy the BD as I knew it would just sit there but I could do with a viewing of it soon.

Exactly my feeling as well after watching the german release yesterday. All this talk of a "huge" upgrade in detail level is just silly, there is nothing huge about the increase of detail in the UHD vs BD in my opinion, it`s marginal at best.

I will gladly keep my BD and save the money for something else.
