One of Tim Burton's most charming features, this gorgeous stop-motion love triangle is a film I've liked more and more with subsequent viewings, and I now consider it one of the director's finest achievements. Johnny Depp voices Victor Van Dort, a tremulously polite young gentleman left befuddled by his betrothal to Victoria Everglott (Emily Watson) in a bid to unite their two families and save both from the poorhouse. Fleeing the wedding rehearsal in fright, he practices his vows in a desolate part of the forest surrounding his small village...and finds, to his chagrin, his proposal accepted by Emily (Helena Bonham Carter), a surprisingly comely cadaver who whisks him away to the Land Of The Dead, a hellzapoppin' jamboree far more lively than the staid, colorless Land Of The Living above. Victor's romantic dilemma -- caught between a pair of lovely women he doesn't want to disappoint -- forms the aching core of this melancholy fairy tale, which bursts with the director's usual mix of light and dark and is brilliantly animated by the emerging Laika studio (who would have their first big solo breakout a few years later with Coraline) and boasts a lovely/lively song score by Danny Elfman (who voices "Ball & Socket Lounge" singer Bonejangles). Along with Edward Scissorhands, this is the Burton feature that I find the most moving of his works, and the inherent sweetness mixes perfectly with the film's lightly ghoulish laughs (Emily has a nattering maggot -- voiced in a Peter Lorre rasp by Enn Reitel -- that lives inside of her eye socket). Perfect Halloween fare for children of all ages.

The Exorcist III (1990) (First-time viewing)


I may be in the minority but I didn't really care for this film at all and I prefer The Heretic. The story wasn't very engaging and it didn't at all feel like it belonged as a part of this franchise. It was a cop movie with some supernatural elements using a character that didn't deserve to be the main focus. Granted I thought George Scott was really good, but Kinderman shouldn't have had his own movie.

of the 4 tales, i really only liked one of them, The Medium. I dont remember the first movie all that well but dont remember it being nearly as over the top and basically straight up comedy....that and part 2 being way over the top in your face in regards to social issues: racial/poltical/social topics.

all I can tell you is to make sure to at least watch it again sometime. The first time I saw this movie (in the theater) I was underwhelmed to say the least and also thought it to be dull. I always figured it was because my expectations were not met-- it didn't really feel like an Exorcist movie...

Something clicked with me the second time I saw it and all of a sudden it turned into an excellent horror outing--- moody, creepy, even scary at times. I've probably seen the movie 4 or 5 times in my lifetime and I've always thought it was great from the 2nd viewing on....

I was so happy to see that FX reran this recently, and that my DVR automatically recorded it. Missed it last season, now I’m all caught up for Apocalypse ! This one was my least favorite AHS season. I loved Evan Peters, of course, and Winter the Carrie Fisher daughter was excellent, but the rest was just kinda blah. The first few episodes were engaging, but once the Clowns were revealed, they lost all their impact. Then Kai started killing off random Cult members, and I lost interest. Peters was a hoot as the flashback Cult Leaders, though- That was a highlight. I’d watch an all new HELTER SKELTER miniseries with Evan Peters as Manson!

As Apocalypse is related to Murder House and Coven, I had to rewatch season 1 "Murder House". I planned to rewatch only selected episodes, but this show is so brilliant, I had to rewatch the whole season. One of the best seasons of this series.

Friday, October 5, 2018 Gerald's Game and here we are: the first “holy crap, what a great movie!!!” of the season. I cannot recommend this one enough. Just a great movie all around, regardless of what genre it is. It proves that low budgets and small casts can indeed make great movies.


Monday, October 8, 2018 Walking and Talking Dead not much horror here, but the World Building I have been looking for since season one. Let’s hope this season is a good one.
Tuesday, October 9, 2018 Tales of Halloween another “holy crap” moment. It plays more like a cheaply made fan film than a big Hollywood production, and certainly not all 10 segments work, but taken in the spirit as intended, this one is whole hell of alota fun, and will be on my Yearly Watch List. Not quite “Trick R Treat” or even “Creepshow”, but still a lot of fun. Plus, it features some Walking Dead actors before Walking Dead.

all I can tell you is to make sure to at least watch it again sometime. The first time I saw this movie (in the theater) I was underwhelmed to say the least and also thought it to be dull. I always figured it was because my expectations were not met-- it didn't really feel like an Exorcist movie...

Something clicked with me the second time I saw it and all of a sudden it turned into an excellent horror outing--- moody, creepy, even scary at times. I've probably seen the movie 4 or 5 times in my lifetime and I've always thought it was great from the 2nd viewing on....

I bought it on BD and watched the theatrical cut since I had never seen it before. Even though I didn't like it I definitely intend to go back and watch the director's cut at some point to see if that'll sway me.

I believe in everyone has a right to their own opinions, but I really don't get the hype for this movie. Had some good moments but overall I thought it was pretty meh, felt most the acting was bad(especially the son) and I had to fight to stay awake.
10/2: Mandy [First Time Viewing] -
What a ride this film was. Very trippy, visually stunning, and Cage played crazy/wild Cage. My favorite kind of Cage.
10/3: Summer Of 84 [First Time Viewing] -
Really dug the vibe and music of this one. Not something that has a lot of replayability but still worth checking out.

There's only a few remakes that I like, this is one of them. Yes I love the original, yes it is a classic. But I love this one as well, and it's so great in 3D. Colin Farrell plays the part perfectly, the way he is aware of the surroundings at all times. Top notch. Usually add this to my October movies every year.

I have a big crush on Yvonne Strahovski. So I had to give this one a watch. Good idea but sadly not done well. Felt a bit too generic. If done right it could have been a pretty interesting horror flick.
