Only if you expect the story is a lot bigger than it is. Agatha mentors Wanda, Monica becomes part of the team, Vision joins the gang to fend off Hayward. End of season.
Entertainment Weekly previously noted during a visit to the WandaVision set, writing: "Ideally, Marvel hopes WandaVision will be just the pilot episode of a long-running TV dynasty; the studio is already hard at work developing seven additional shows, with each one connecting to past and future films. "WandaVision, Feige notes, will directly set up the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with Olsen’s witch playing a key role alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer. For me it is surprsing to see how many people like this show. I was looking forward to it and was surprised to see how terrible it is in my opinion. In a lot of aspects it feels very similar for me as "Agents of Shield", since the writing has a certain 1990s vibe - but sadly not in a positive way.
The first 3 episodes were extremely long-winded. The plot that they contained could have easily been condensed into one or even a half episode. I understand that they wanted to create mystery - but if your series takes 3 episodes for that without showing any strong character beats or an interesting plot, then you should really work on your scripts a lot more. For me the series just did not work and I gave up after episode three, as I felt the writers were obviously wasting my time. I know that afterwards the mystery starts to untangle as I read a bit about further episodes online, but for me it was too little too late. Also: I liked the idea of paying hommage to older sitcoms, but WandaVision has a big problem: It is completely unfunny. If you chose to pay tribute to the sitcoms of old and take a lot of situations out of them, make them funny. Sadly for me it was just a poor man's version of the originals considering this aspect. I am glad for everyone who enjoys the show but I was completely disappointed and felt I really wasted my time with such a poorly written show with such a terrible pacing. There are just too many alternatives to watch, that is why I quit after episode three - with the regret that I did not already stop after episode 1. Was there anyone who was feeling similar about it? There are nine episodes. When the season is finished we would have 270-315 minutes worth of show. Or 4hrs 20min to 5hrs 15min. If credits were involved, then the season would run 335-380min. Which is 5hrs 35min to 6hrs 20min. Last edited by jayman3; 02-21-2021 at 11:27 AM. |

But yeah, the series definitely has a problem in that the sitcom parodies are pure recycled cliche (as you say, they don't actually try to be sincerely funny... and TV is already filled to the brim with unfunny sitcoms), and for me at least, the novelty that they're "but with Marvel characters inserted" holds up for a few minutes, maybe, but not a few episodes. It doesn't spark any particular joy for me when they say that their toaster is manufactured by Stark Enterprises. However, this last episode worked like I think most of the series should have all along - a Marvel story taking place inside the trappings of a sitcom. But early episodes were just dolling out sporadic hints sprinkled throughout an unbroken sitcom. And while yes, there is some mystery fans care about (who exactly is controlling what? Which Big Bad will be revealed in the end? How will this connect to future Marvel Stuff?) a lot of it is either deep-in-the-weeds references for diehard comicbook readers only, or general hints that everybody already knew before starting to watch (just suggesting that W&V are trapped in some kind of magical/sci-fi Matrix where everything is not what it seems isn't giving anybody anything). Like, I read comics as a kid growing up, so I get a lot of this West Coast Avengers stuff. But to fans of just the films/ shows, a little pendant saying "SWORD" doesn't mean anything besides "I guess they're another group." Or if [Show spoiler] For me, this series feels like very thin gruel spread through too far too many episodes teasing a lot of what was already perfectly understood. The first three episodes could've been the first fifteen minutes of episode 1. It's tough to keep a mystery engaging where the audience is ahead of the characters, and we're still waiting for Wanda to figure out what we knew even before episode 1 aired. Now the series' appeal feels more tied to how you feel about the interactions between Randall Park and Kat Dennings, which I have to admit, I've been enjoying. So I probably rate the series higher than you do at this late stage. But that's just because it's pandemic season, not much to do, so I've hung in there where I normally wouldn't have bothered. |

I like a great adaption true to the source that pays hommage to it, but the most important is, that it works on it's own with a great story and great characters. And the first three episosdes of WandaVision had neither. They build on an interesting premise, but never go anywhere with it. Many of my friends advised me to "at least watch episode 4", but by that point I was too frustrated with the writing, because I already regretted watching episodes 2 and three. Quote:

Another show that really blew me away is "Cobra Kai", which in my opinion has extremely strong writing for most of the characters and a lot of great humour as well as heart. But I also loved both seasons of "The Mandalorian" for example as well as "The Boys" or "Umbrella Academy". |
